Experience The Nature Around Omis

The natural environment in Omis is very impressive, and travelers can engage in a lot of activities exploring nature. Before reaching the sea, the Cetina River flows about 100 km of the Dalmatian hinterland. Travelers can go canyoning, rock climbing, and free climbing along the river, and witness Omis' nature at its best. Visitors can also engage in white-water rafting in this place. There is also a zipline, offering incredible views, but it is only for the true adventurers with no fear. Watching as the non-forested Dalmatian rocks meet the sea offers a great deal of fulfillment. The Cetina River, its canyons, the sea, and the hills make a beautiful combination of nature.

Explore The Old Town

The old town of Omis is small but lovely. It has beautiful alleyways situated around St. Michael’s Square. One can also explore the Romanesque Mirabella Fortress and the old town gate. The gates of the old town were constructed in the 15th century under Venetian rule. A good trick is beginning the tour from Port Terraferma on Omis’ eastern side, passing through Pjaca, the main historic thoroughfare of the town, until one reaches the western gates on the river. Along the way, visitors will find several bars. There is a protected church of St Peter, located on the river’s western bank. This church dates back to the 10th century, and many people consider it one of pre-Romanesque sacral architecture’s most important examples. Travelers shouldn’t leave the old town without exploring the medieval wall’s terraces, on the riverbed. The medieval wall was constructed by the pirates as a means of stopping their enemies from invading the Cetina. The pirates used their smallest ship to pass through a secret passage.

Dining In Omis

Travelers can never have enough of Omis' local dishes. In fact, one won't be short on sit-down meals and fast foods. One of the most visited food eateries in town is Bastion, having a good reputation for serving the best seafood. The eatery offers their guests sharing platter options, which can usually vary, depending on what’s available. Brzi Gonzalez is another food eatery to consider, located about one km south of the town’s bridge. This restaurant is widely recognized for serving the tastiest Mexican cuisine. They only lack authenticity, but their effort and the massive portions of meals they offer surely make up for it. On Cetina’s banks, about two kilometers inland, is Kastil Slanica, a beautiful restaurant that was once a secret hideout of pirates. The restaurant provides a unique riverside atmosphere and a menu offering Dalmatian staples, including peka and sometimes the rare cuisine of the Dalmatian hinterland, such as meals prepared with eels, frogs, and river fish. Travelers looking to get a seating space directly overlooking the river should ensure they specify when booking because they are always limited, and only available on a first-come, first-serve basis. When one moves about one kilometer more towards the river, they’ll reach Radman Mills, a beautiful dining spot with a less formal dining experience.
