Summary

  • Puerto Rico: The entire country never experiences snowfall due to its proximity to the equator and direct sunlight. Temperatures can go down to 67.1°F and 67.8°F in January and February, but that's the coldest it gets.
  • Vanuatu: This tropical island has never had snowfall recorded in history. Its beaches, tropical climate, and active volcanoes make it a popular tourist destination.
  • The Virgin Islands: St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands sees average temperatures of 73 degrees, with highs around 88 degrees. It has never snowed in the Virgin Islands, making it a dreamy location for those who dislike the cold.

Not everyone embraces the seasonal changes that come with a new year, and believe it or not, there are people out there who hate snow (and some might even be reading this right now!). Not every traveler loves to rent ski chalets after the first snowfall or enjoys driving around the country's greatest leaf-peeping destinations, and that's okay - because some parts of the world have never even seen snow.

While many of us are busy pulling out our fluffiest winter jackets, beanies, and warmest winter boots, some are desperately trying to think of a way to get a reprieve from the inevitable winter weather. While travel may have come to a complete stop this year, that doesn't mean travel has been called off for next year. There might not be many options available to delay the eventual first snowfall this year. Still, for the winter haters out there, the following year means 365 days of opportunity to get that Vitamin D-sunshine fix. Out of every destination in the world, these are the places that have never seen a snowflake.

To some people, a world or a country without snow is heaven. Puerto Rico will make their dreams come true. The entire country never experiences snowfall. Due to its proximity to the equator, it receives direct sunlight. Consequently, it is one of the places that never get cold enough for it to snow. Temperatures can go down to 67.1 °F and 67.8 °F, respectively, in January and February, which are the coldest months in Puerto Rico.

Vanuatu has never had snowfall in recorded history. The beaches, tropical climate, and active volcanoes of Vanuatu are well-known. It is a popular tourist destination, the home of many village-dwelling subsistence farmers, and a major exporter of lumber, cocoa, and cattle. Therefore, if tourists are looking for a winter country with no snow, they should consider this magnificent island!

The Virgin Islands

Anyone who has been to the Virgin Islands knows what paradise truly looks like. St. Thomas, specifically, sees an average temperature of 73 degrees. On many days, temperatures can reach 88 degrees which is usually the high of the day for the islands. That makes these islands a pretty dreamy location for those of us who despise anything cold and chilly, and it gets even better. The lowest temperature ever recorded in the Virgin Islands was no less than 55 degrees... That's usually a comfortable temperature for most people during the fall and could even be considered a mild winter for some, but in the Virgin Islands, that's practically blizzard weather. Except for the fact that it has never snowed and likely never will.

Guam is even higher in the temperature range as it's closer to the equator, and it's almost not surprising to know that this country has never seen a bit of snow. It's warm and sunny (aside from seasonal storms) here year-round, and its location in the Pacific is also helpful for these consistently warm temps. The lowest temperature ever recorded here was 65 degrees, which is crazy to think about considering the low, low temperatures that much of the US - and the world - see on average every year. For many around the world, 65 degrees would be a welcome change compared to the inevitable winter chill.

Cairo, Egypt

It's also not surprising that snow has never fallen on the pyramids. Egypt is one destination that truly makes sense in terms of no snowfall especially considering it's a desert environment. However, just because it has a desert climate doesn't mean that snow isn't possible - there are many desert environments that do see snow and even monsoons; it all depends on location and weather patterns. Cairo, however, is an exception to the rule due to its unbelievably dry climate. The city sees less than one inch of rainfall per year, and none of that is anywhere near snow. There was an instance during 2013 when many thought snowfall had actually come down - but it turned out to be hail, and even that was softer than usual due to this country's high temperatures.

New Delhi, India

New Delhi is a bit of a contradiction to a normal winter pattern since its temperatures are quite opposite to what many are familiar with. The winter season in India is actually considered to be the 'dry' season, whereas, in most places, winter is a 'wet' season due to hail, freezing rain, and snowfall. It gets even stranger, though - while New Delhi never sees an annual snowfall, it does see frost, which means that temperatures do get low enough for precipitation to freeze at ground level... just never below the 32-degree mark and never enough for precipitation to freeze at an atmospheric level.

Fiji

While its (somewhat) neighbor, New Zealand, does see snow - at least in the mountains - Fiji is devoid of any and all snowy days. Its location in the South Pacific is helpful in this instance, especially when it comes to maintaining a constant tropical climate. That's also why Fiji is such a huge destination for tourists since the weather is fairly consistent year-round and offers bright and sunny days most of the time.

Borneo is one of the world's largest islands and is famous for its orangutans, sun bears, and some of the most stunning jungles in the world. Borneo is divided politically; it is home to three countries - Eastern Malaysia, Indonesia, and the tiny country of Brunei. Here visitors can go diving, enjoy excellent seafood, enjoy the warm hospitality of the local people, go jungle trekking or orangutans and other wildlife, and much more.

Most people who visit Malaysia just visit the peninsula and the capital and largest city of Kuala Lumpur. Still, the Borneo side offers a much more exotic and laid-back experience. On this island, the weather is tropical year-round, and the only shifting seasons to consider are the rainy and dry seasons.

Surprisingly: The Dry Valleys, Antarctica

Surprise! Another place that has never seen snow is actually in the one place where everyone would already assume there's snow. The Dry Valley deserves its name as it is one of the driest places on the planet. It's estimated that this location hasn't seen rainfall for nearly two million years, according to the Farmer's Almanac. This is due to the fact that the mountains in the area prevent any low-lying ground from getting moisture, but also the fact that the high winds - known as katabatic winds - evaporate any potential moisture out of the air before it even reaches the ground.
