Autumn is just around the corner and with the changes in weather comes the welcome change that we look forward to every year: That beautiful fall scenery. The US has plenty of leaf-peeping spots and is even home to some gorgeous hikes that are incredibly scenic during the fall months, but we often forget that the rest of the world experiences a change in seasons, too. Color-changing leaves, that crisp, fall air, and sweater weather are all part of a time much of the world enjoys and one that many look forward to.

While the US might be one of the most stunning countries for autumn vistas, there are some other countries that are lesser-known for their fall beauty but should be. So much so, that it's worth taking an autumn trip to see these counties in all their orange, red, and yellow-leafed glory... at least as far as these photos are concerned.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Known well for its history and for being the largest city in Scotland, Edinburgh holds enough charm on its own. Throw some seasonal leaf changes in there and a chill to the air, though, and suddenly, it's like Scotland's history come to life. Between towering castles (such as Edinburgh) and rolling hillsides, Edinburgh is the perfect European city to waste the day away in, under a newly-turned tree, reading classic literature.

Even a walk in the park in Edinburgh is magical during autumn, as no two trees are the same and the colors range from a subtle brown all the way to bright, vibrant pops of oranges and reds.

Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo is well-known for its beauty during the autumn season, however, not many people visit during November, when the scenery is at its full peak. Tokyo even plays host to an autumn festival during this time, complete with nighttime walks through rows of color-changing trees as their leaves are lit up from lights on the ground.

A walk along any waterway will reflect color back in vibrant reds and yellows, which is what Tokyo's fall season is so well-known for. The incredible thing about this is that despite Tokyo being such a busy city, the trees - similar to New York City - still bloom and change as though there's no city life around them.

Bruges, Belgium

For infinite pops of reds and pinks, Bruges is the place to be. Photos showcasing the beauty of Bruges during fall are seemingly hard to believe, as the trees here seem to be illuminated from within while they undergo major seasonal glow-ups. The waterways that run through Belgium serve as reflective mirrors, making every walk through this city something of a surreal dream.

As the sun sets, every yellow and orange leaf seems to pop on its own, reflecting back the light that's left in the day. Along with the natural charm and rustic architectural style that makes Bruges such a historically dreamy city already, autumn is arguably the most gorgeous season here. There's nothing like grabbing a quick bite to eat and getting cozy on a waterway park bench to watch the sunrise, surrounded by the historic charm and all of autumn's scenery.

Bavaria, Germany

While Germany is known for Oktoberfest, its scenery isn't too shabby, either. Up in the mountains of Bavaria, the leaves change at a striking pace, making them appear as though they're alight with blazing neon colors ranging from red to yellow and everything in between.

With stunning castles in the foreground and sharp mountain summits in the back, the vistas here are utterly breathtaking. A bird's-eye view isn't needed to take it all in, though - the ambiance from these color-changing mountains can be seen just as easily from the ground.

Scottish Highlands, UK

The Scottish Highlands are still wholly uninhabited and untamed, making their autumn beauty raw and bold. Even the ground changes color in these Highlands, making it appear as though Autumn is slowly creeping in from the ground up, transforming everything from a lush green to a striking orange.

Rolling green hillsides turn into multi-colored paintings as the brief time between summer and winter takes hold of nature's finest attributes. Everything, from the trees to the ground, is in a full array of colors, some of which is easily reflected in Scotland's lochs, or lakes. It doesn't get much more gorgeous, or wilder, than a scene such as this.
