There are convenience stores, and then there's 7-Eleven. This 24-hour mini-mart was first founded back in 1927 and has become a staple around the world ever since. While it's popular in the U.S. for quick coffee breaks, small convenience items, and snacks, it's become somewhat of a one-stop shop in many other parts of the world.

In Japan, for example, 7-Eleven sells entire gourmet meals as well as any practical item a traveler could want or need while abroad - but there's one location that trumps even Japan's convenience stores. In Thailand, there's a 7-Eleven store that's bigger (literally and metaphorically) than any other in the world... and this is what it's like to shop there.

The Biggest 7-Eleven In The World

Not only is 7-Eleven the most popular convenience store in the world but just when it couldn't possibly contain anything else, there's Thailand's version of the store. In Pattaya, Thailand, visitors will find a two-story 7-Eleven that's sporting a - wait for it - nautical theme in addition to its seemingly endless stocked shelves. For those familiar with Pattaya, it's a well-known fact that this glam resort-style destination is already a dream for beach-loving travelers. The addition of a 7-Eleven - the largest in the world, no less - is nothing short of an alluring idea.

It's nearly impossible to miss this massive store, especially with its exterior resembling that of a giant cruise ship. Another thing that visitors will notice is the large covered outdoor seating space, something a convenience store rarely has with the exception of a gas station market. In size, the actual store is equivalent to that of a supermarket. And, for what it's worth, shoppers can probably find similar items in Pattaya's monstrous 7-Eleven, as well.

Unique Features Of Pattaya's 7-Eleven

The inside of Pattaya's 7-Eleven is also equally as impressive as the outside, carrying the nautical theme throughout its various levels. Upon first walking in, visitors will notice the giant TV screen that's mounted on the opposite wall. In case the seaside vibes weren't obvious enough, this screen shows a constant loop of sea life, reefs, and underwater environments. So not only is it entertaining, but it's also quite relaxing in regard to a shopping atmosphere.

Additionally, the entire inside of this 7-Eleven sports the same themes of the ocean, complete with porthole-style windows, nautical (super clean!) bathrooms, and various decor that emanates that of what one might find on a ship.

Those looking for a cup of coffee will also be delighted to know that this is not your basic 7-Eleven self-serve coffee counter. In Pattaya, 7-Eleven features its own in-house cafe which definitely boosts the chic factor up quite a few notches. While waiting for one's coffee, it's only expected that one will peruse the shelves - and find some pretty unique items while they do so. That is, after being greeted by an AI saying 'welcome' to anyone who passes through the store's doors.

A wide array of candy options are stocked on the shelves adorning the store's blue-backlit counters, from Mentos to Buenos chocolate bars. Just to the left, shoppers will find the cafe with plenty of food and beverage options to choose from - including some specific to the location. In the center of the first floor and to the right are all manner of food options, from prepared sandwiches to quick snacks. Mixed in with these are household products, such as shampoos, conditioners, and other bathroom toiletries. A mix of stylish sunglasses is on display just before the electronics section, which carries anything a traveler might need (or not), including miniature fans, Bluetooth speakers, hairdryers, and even toasters! Visitors can find a wide array of beach-themed items, as well - including sailor uniforms for fun, flip-flops, and all kinds of sun protection.

There's even a human-sized robot that follows visitors around the store on a dedicated track, as well. Named Sinsamut, this cute little robot is intended to make visitors feel as though the atmosphere is light, friendly, and futuristic - all things that this 7-Eleven certainly achieves. Kids get the greatest pleasure out of this unique robot, though, and have no hesitations when it comes to waving or having conversations with the little guy.

  • Try This: When Sinsamut comes near, give a little wave - this automatically signals to the robot that someone is there, and it will shift gears and greet the person who waved.
