THETRAVEL VIDEO OF THE DAY

For starters, you want to visit a locale that's walkable, and if it's not walkable, it should at least be easy to rent a car in or hop on public transportation. This last-minute, quick vacation should also be a place that has many places to book and rent, otherwise the 'last-minute' part of the trip isn't happening. And, lastly, it should be a place that's close to an airport, has plenty of dining options, and many even a few good destinations for some weekend entertainment. If the price to pay for a weekend getaway isn't a factor, then enjoy these cities during your next spontaneous vacay.

New Orleans

There's nothing that's not to love about this lively southern city. New Orleans has long been hailed as one of the best destinations in the south thanks to its diverse entertainment, incredible music scene, and trademark cuisine.

Waking up early in the morning to start the day off with beignets and a cup of hot coffee before persuing shops and pausing to hear live music on every street corner is nothing short of a dream. At night, the streets come alive with dancing and festivals, because Mardi Gras isn't the only time this city throws a celebration.

Savannah

Not far from New Orleans is Savannah, known for its historical, Spanish moss-covered city streets. This city is one of the most beautiful in the country and its southern charm has yet to be matched by any other. Walking through local parks or soaking in the architecture that's positively dripping with Gothic history only adds to the magic that is a weekend getaway.

Any number of elegant and cozy bed and breakfasts should provide plenty of enchanting avenues to walk down, and authentic southern food is in abundance here. There are a number of notable stops throughout this city and we won't spoil it by listing them all - but trust us when we say you'll never be more enchanted by any one city.

San Francisco

The beautiful city of San Francisco is historical in a more urban and hip kind of way that appeals to many people. From iconic street views to the wonder that is the Golden Gate Bridge, there's almost too much to see in this vast city for one weekend. However, that's all part of why it's so much fun.

A weekend getaway is a perfect time to explore every touristy avenue in San Francisco and soak up all of its California-inspired food while taking in the city sites from the historic trolley that rolls through them.

Wisconsin Dells

For those who want nothing but nature on their weekend getaway, Wisconsin Dells sits three hours outside of Chicago which makes it a pretty convenient midwest destination. There, visitors will be happy to know that thrilling adventure parks, recreational water sports, and hiking are all within reach.

It's a great weekend destination for those who are looking to truly escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a little one-on-one time with nature. The landscape will surely speak to you on a deeper level with forested hillsides and lakes that are perfect for relaxing near. Plus, the cheese curds in Wisconsin Dells are some of the finest in the country so there's something for the foodies, too.

Miami

Miami is the perfect party destination but only if one so chooses. It's easy to forget that this vibrant city is also known for its cuisine, being wholly Cuban-inspired with some of the best restaurants on the East Coast. When you've had your fill of great food, the shopping and entertainment venues are second to none, with plenty of options for any kind of traveler.

If that's not your thing, then stick to Miami's breathtaking beaches or venture out a little further to explore the nature surrounding this lively city. There's even something for the history lovers with both St. Augustine and Naples being only a short trip away. And the best part? Flights in and out of the city are super accessible, and any number of accommodations - for any budget - can be booked pretty quickly.
