The City of Georgetown is 25 miles north of Austin and is Williamson County's administrative capital. Considered Texas's most beautiful town square, the city is famed for its high red poppies population. Henry Purl Compton who served in American Expeditionary Forces brought red poppy seeds to Georgetown after World War I. After his mother planted them they got dispersed by birds, people, and bees all over the city. On April 25, 1990, local residents and the Texas Legislature certified Georgetown as the "Red Poppy Capital of Texas." Red Poppy Festival

April every year, Georgetown hosts a three-day Red Poppy Festival that starts on Friday at 6 p.m. and ends on Sunday at 5 p.m. At this festival, various artists and bands perform live. Besides, the musical performances are fun activities for adults and families with children. There also are car shows, pet parades, a red poppy tour, and a ceremonial poppy parade. A kid's fun zone with bouncy castles, an obstacle course, a slide, a toddler's playground, and a basketball game court, keeps children occupied. Touc-A-Truck is where kids go and see the big trucks, fire equipment, and heavy equipment, and cranes, that build Georgetown with their operators. At this festival, there are booths with 120 artists where visitors buy handmade jewelry, furniture, glass and wood art, home decor, paintings, and more. A food court to serve famished visitors exists. All events and concerts are free except the corn hole tournament.

Inner Space Cavern

Discovered in 1963 by Texas Highway Department and opened to the public in 1966 the Inner Space Cavern under interstate 35 is 69 feet in depth and 6114.7 meters in length. The cave has beautiful calcite stalactite formations hanging on its roofs like abstractly formed chandeliers and large cathedral-type "rooms." Adventure, Hidden Passages, Wild Cave and Ice Age are the four tour types available at the Inner Space Cavern. The cave is relatively easy to explore, but some tours are restricted by age and skill level. Inner Space Cavern has constant 72 degrees of humid temperature and doesn't flood when it rains. Depending on the tour and visitors' age, Inner Space Cavern tours range from $14:95 to $100. For the Adventure Tour tickets can be bought online or on arrival. Online tickets can be used any day and time. Inner Cave tours can be restricted to visitors with illnesses or health issues. Blue Hole Park

On the South San Gabriel River's South Fork is the Blue Hole Park a scenic lagoon surrounded by round and concave limestone cliffs. It has a long waterfall and fairly shallow waters plus nature hiking trails around it. Blue Hole Park is a favorite with families with children and people who love to wade and swim or fish. In summer Blue Hole teems with visitors cooling off in its waters. The park also has picnic areas and restrooms. Blue Hole Park opens from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m and entry is free. Jumping off the cliffs is forbidden, and alcohol use is prohibited.

Georgetown Art Center

Georgetown Art Center is a community hub, art gallery, and public studio space. At this hub art is exhibited, artists' talks, and public events are hosted. Yearly Art Hop an event promoting art is hosted at Georgetown Art Center, and the best Texas artists are awarded cash prizes. Open calls are made to attract budding artists who wish to have their eclectic art creations exhibited here. The Georgetown Art Center opens from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday it's open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. but is closed on Monday.

Sweet Eats Fruit Farm

The over 80 acres of Sweet Eats Fruit Farm grows nutrient-concentrated fruits grown sustainably and ethically to protect the environment and human health. Fruits grown include plums, nectarines, peaches, blueberries, and cherries as well as pumpkins. On-field trips visitors learn about composting, animal care, ecosystems, adaptation, map-reading, plant or animal lifecycle, and also pick in-season fruits. Visitors also pet goats, and hens at the zoo, ride ponies, face painting, or watch pig races. Birthday parties, sunflower festivals, and wine tastings for those over 21 years are hosted here too. Field visits to Sweet Eats Fruit Farm are reserved on this online form and other events are posted on the farm's website where visitors can buy tickets.

Dining

Georgetown has gastronomic establishments where visitors can dine on delicious cuisines and beverages. These include:

  • BiG Cafe: At this café bacon, pastries, eggs, ham, sweet potatoes, chicken, sandwiches, and other dishes, plus tea and coffee and are prepared and served by special needs people.
  • Sweet Lemon Kitchen: An array of Italian, Mexican Mediterranean, and French dishes, plus beverages like tea and coffee and desserts are served here. Different wines and beers are available too.
  • Hello Sweetie BBQ: Visitors here will dish on tasty pit-smoked barbeque of ribs, brisket, chicken, pulled pork, and sausage. Their menu also has ten soul food sides like coleslaw, beans, collard greens, potato salad, corn, candied yams, and fried cabbage.
  • Monument Cafe: This cafe serves food made from organic ingredients like fresh meat vegetables and desserts. These are locally sourced, seasonal, and organic as was typical of Texas roadside cafés of the 1920 and 1940s.
  • Hula Cowgirl Shaved Ice Cream: This shop serves ice cream, shakes, almost 100 shave ice flavors, and desserts, plus coffee and pastries.

Lake Georgetown

At this 1200 acres lake, visitors can boat, ski, and angle the channel and flathead catfishes, white bass fish plus small and largemouth bass fishes. The four parks around Lake Georgetown have 26.5 miles of nature trails suited for hiking, picnicking, and camping. The parks are Jim Hogg, Cedar Brakes, Russell Park, and Tejas.
