The White Mountains in New Hampshire are always popular destinations for local travel as well as travel from across the country. Mount Washington is possibly the most well-known destination in this area, but sometimes forgotten is the little pool located at its base.

The Garnet Pool is an aesthetic Victorian Era pool located near the conjuncture of the Peabody River and Nineteen Mile Brook that was once a well-known day trip location. The pool is still in great condition today and is a must-visit location.

The Garnet Pool In The White Mountains

Near the base of Mount Washington, close to the Auto Road entrance, Travelers can discover the Garnet Pool. The rocks here are cold like the water that has slowly eroded them for years. It has crystal-clear water that is deep enough for swimming. In the 1800s, The Garnet Pools were a popular tourist destination. It is in the proximity of towns like Jackson and Graham, while just at the base of Mount Washington itself. This all combined into making it a popular tourist destination.

How To Find The Pool?

When looking for the pool, travelers should be careful when using GPS because it isn’t always accurate when it gives directions to the pool.

The Garnet Pool is located opposite the Nineteen-Mile Brook Trailhead directly across White Mountain Rd (Route 16). Travelers should look for two wooden piers connected with a chain. They mark the entrance to the Garnet Pool Trail Head.

A suggestion for parking is to use the Nineteen-Mile Brooks Trailhead for parking. There is little to no parking at the trailhead for the Garnet Pool.

What Else Is In The Area?

The area around Garnet Pool has always been a popular destination for travelers, so there is still much for visitors to the pool to explore. Travelers to this area are often outdoor enthusiasts, so there are plenty of hikes to check out. There is also the Glen House which offers fine accommodation and tourist tops like the Great Gulf Suspension Bridge.

Glen House

The Glen House is actually a series of grand resorts and hotels. They were built in the area of Pinkham Notch in proximity to Mount Washington in 1852. They have been a popular tourist stop in the White Mountains of New Hampshire for quite some time.

Great Gulf Suspension Bridge

New Hampshire is full of fun little landmarks and one is found quite close to the Garnet Pool. The Great Gulf Suspension Bridge is just to the north of Garnet Pool. The Bridge is just wide enough for a person and is fairly unique in how it traverses the river.

South Carter Mountain

Just 4 km (2.5 miles) east of the Garnet Pool, South Carter Mountain is a great location for a day hike. The trail will take eight to nine hours to complete, so it should be started early. It is a challenging hike with significant elevation gain, so hikers should be in good physical condition.

Little Wildcat Mountain

Little Wildcat Mountain offers another day hiking location to visitors to the region. This hike is also challenging and has more elevation gain than the South Carter Mountain hike. Travelers in good physical condition will enjoy this hike

Lows Bald Spot

Lows Bald Spot is a much shorter hike that is perfect for a morning or afternoon. The hike is challenging, but the elevation gain is significantly less than the previous two. Lows Bald Spot is to the northeast of Huntington Ravine.
