There are many novel hotels in the world. They range from Hans Brinker Hotel - the self-described worst hotel in the world (but where it's still better than sleeping in an unmarked grave), to a private hotel submarine - the most expensive hotel in the world and only from $240,000 per night. The Swedes have some ideas of their own. They have their famous ice hotels and now a Jumbo Jet hotel.

Making the idea even better is that the Jumbo Stay Hotel is located right by the Stockholm Airport. So if one has just flown across the world, is jetlagged, needs a shower, and never wants to see an airplane again - good news (sic)! There's literally an airplane that's a hotel right at the airport! Stockholm is the stunning city you've come to visit but stay at the airport anyway. Jumbo Stay is somewhat of a hostel.

About Jumbo Stay

Located at the Arlanda Airport in Sweden by Stockholm is the Jumbo Stay Hotel. This unique hotel is in a Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet that will never get off the ground again. It offers an exclusive experience and a way to experience Stockholm no one would think of. Especially given that it's in a really nice city with great architecture. Jumbo Stay is not in a boring place looking for exotic ways to attract visitors like Iowa or Nebraska.

Going to Stockholm with all their stunning majestic old buildings and interesting exotic old hotels? Meh just stay in the vehicle from Seattle that brought you there. But at least, one will never miss this grounded plane with late check-in or if one's flight is delayed.

  • Excludes: Tiresome and Annoying Airsafety Videos
  • Includes: The Cramped Space Of An Aircraft
  • Excludes: Air Turbulence
  • Includes: The Environment of A Vehicle Made In Seattle (Excludes The Cool Old Buildings of Stockholm)
  • Excludes: Delays, Crashes, and Float Devises Under the Seat
  • Includes: Breakfast Actually at Breakfast Time
  • Excludes: Jetlag

This has to be one of the world's coolest stays at reasonable prices (at least reasonable prices in the context of notoriously expensive Sweden).

Restaurant and Cafe

Jumbo Stay is more than just a hostel and comes with its own cafe. It is even open to non-guests from outside who would like to come for a brew. In the cafe, one can purchase ice cream, breakfast, coffee, cookies, sandwiches, and some warm meals (don't expect anything to be cheap).

  • Payment: Jumbo Stay Is a Cash-Free Hotel (Sweden Is Largely Cash-Free As is China)

Visitors might be able to walk along the left-wing observation deck and enjoy the feeling of standing on top of the Jumbo's wing. The website is ambiguous if that is currently available or not (the mention visitors will be able to from December 2012 - apparently their website hasn't been updated in some time).
