It’s summer, and everyone is looking to spend some time cooling off in the pool—but Hansen Dam Recreation Center in Los Angeles takes swimming to the next level with their supersized pool at Hansen Dam Aquatic Center that is the largest in the country.
Learn About The Area
Located at the site of the Hansen Dam, it’s not simply your run-of-the-mill neighborhood pool. First, there is plenty to do here as visitors can explore Hansen Dam Horse Park, pop in Hansen Dam Golf Course for a quick round of 18 holes, and check out the Hansen Dam Recreation Center which has plenty of activities of its own. There is also a lake here where visitors can fish and boat, and a smaller swim lake where you can take a dip if you get tired of the fabulous pool (as if!).
The Hansen Dam Recreation Center also has both equestrian and walking trails—and you can further explore the area by linking up with trails in the nearby Angeles National Forest. The recreation center has picnic tables and BBQ pits, in case you feel like packing a picnic.
The site is also home to a skate park and playground, so there is plenty to keep both kids and grownups occupied.
Take A Dip In Country's Largest Pool
Part of the Hansen Dam Aquatic Center, which is also part of the larger Hansen Dam Recreation Center complex), the pool is one of 20 pools in Los Angeles that is open all year round. The pool itself is situated in an almost resort-like area of the complex that is less like a traditional public pool—more beachy atmosphere cum water park vibes will make visitors feel as if they are on vacation. Though it is LA’s largest public pool, many people say that its atmosphere resembles that of a private swim club—the people are chill, there’s no hassle, and everyone just wants to have a great time. There are also two(!) water slides for those who want a little more thrills with their pool experience.
