A Tropical Vacation to the U.S. Virgin Islands is on many people’s bucket lists. They are a stunning collection of islands in the Caribbean tropics that offer up so much to their visitors. However, it can be a challenge to find the right time for this vacation.

July and August are the most popular months for travel across the globe, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere. There’s just something about warm weather that makes humans adventurous.
A weather concern for the mid-summer to late-summer months would also be the increased risk of hurricanes. Despite warnings for hurricanes often coming quick enough to cancel travel plans, no one wants to cancel a trip they have been planning for a long time.
The months of December, January, February, and March bring rough weather to the Northern Hemisphere which insights those in far north locations to flock south for warmer weather. One of the go-to destinations, for more than just Americans, is the U.S. Virgin Islands. This means increased crowds, which most desire to avoid.
The next weather concern is the uptick in precipitation that occurs during September, October, and November. There may be fewer travelers on the islands, but for good reason. The increased chance of rainfall can really put a damper on beach destination activities.
That leaves just three months on the list of ideal times to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands. They are April, May, and June. The crowds have lessened some since the winter months up north have subsided and the summer rush has yet to begin. Also, the weather remains pleasant with a minimal chance of rainfall and warm, not oppressively hot, temperatures.

With highs around 87ᐤ F, lows around 74ᐤ F, and average precipitation of just 2.7 inches in the month, April is an amazingly temperate time to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands. With the crowds dispersing there is the added benefit of cheaper hotel rates and easier access to touristy destinations, restaurants, and activities. Overall, this is considered the best month to visit the U.S. Virgin Islands. The crowds are quite low, though higher than May and June in total during 2021, and the chance of rain is negligible. It should be noted that the crowd size does decrease as the month goes on making late April perhaps the ideal time to arrive for this month.

With highs around 88ᐤ F, lows around 76ᐤ F, and average precipitation of just 3.1 inches in the month, May also offers a balance of little rain and great temperatures for outdoor activities. The crowds still have not returned yet for May which means great access to the local destinations. However, May is the rainiest of these three months. It may be something taken advantage of by travelers as May has the lowest tourist population of these three months. The chance of rain, and being in the middle of a low travel period, keeps other travelers away and offers even cheaper rates as well as easier access to the islands’ activities.

With highs around 89ᐤ F, lows around 78ᐤ F, and average precipitation of just 2.5 inches in the month, June has comparably the best weather of these three months. With the lowest chance of rain and what could be considered the best temperatures. The very comfortable nighttime low of 78ᐤ F makes this the ideal month for nighttime activities and revelries. It does start to get a little hot during the day, which may or may not be an issue for some travelers. The crowds do slowly start to creep back to the island this month, so travelers will see a slight increase in rates and crowd size as the month goes on. This means early June may be the best time of this month to make the trip.
