Tasmania is often the lesser-known part of Australia's natural beauty and while tourism is increasing, it's still wholly unexplored by most. This is also a territory of Australia with some of the lesser-known, yet still stunning beaches. This in itself is surprising considering how untouched and beautiful this tiny coastal island state is, just off the shore of Melbourne.

The Bass Strait runs between the mainland and this island, which is the 26th largest in the world. Home to 537,000 people, every area on this island is something to be explored, from its gorgeous sights to small, historic towns full of shopping and stellar food. It's not one of the most remote islands in the world, but it can only be reached by land or sea - however, it's a short trip that's well worth it.

Bay Of Fires

It's easy to see where the Bay of Fires got its name. The rocks along this coastline are covered in bright orange lichen, giving them their appearance of being on fire - thus its namesake. Exploring these rocks is fairly easy with good footing, and the bay itself is gorgeous.

It's also a great place for photography and for spending a lazy day at the beach, with its crystal-clear waters and striking blue skies. The contrast of the surrounding lichen-covered rocks against the azure water of the bay is truly breathtaking.

Hike Mount Wellington

Hiking Mount Wellington isn't as intimidating as it sounds and as opposed to other hikes in the area, this one is easy and worth the effort. From the scenic boardwalk, visitors have a nearly 360-degree view of the city below, from coast to coast.

A popular time to hike is at sunset, as the setting sun radiates vibrant colors against the mountainscape in the distance. But in reality, there's no bad time of day to complete this hike - the view is still stunning regardless. The nearby town of Hobart is a great place to explore as well and is home to a growing art scene, some of the best coffee in the world, and even a vineyard.

Check Out Wineglass Bay

Wineglass Bay is named for its unique shape and as these blue waters swirl into the shoreline, they meet a stunning white sand beach.

The views of this beach can be taken in from a relatively easy hiking trail above, or hikers can head down to the beach to soak up some rays. It's a great place for a picnic and an even better place to relax, and it's easily considered to be the best beach on the entire island of Tasmania.

Take a Cruise Around Bruny Island

Not far from Hobart is Bruny Island, which is a destination worthy of exploring. These island cruises are one of the most popular tourist activities on the entire island, and it's easy to see why. Guided seaside tours are the best way to see all this island has to offer, as it's home to expansive wildlife and plenty of plant life to learn about.

This natural environment holds a unique ecosystem and when visitors have finished learning about it, they can head into town and do even more exploring. With plenty of top-notch dining options and gourmet treats such as local cheeses and chocolate, it's easy to plan an entire day in this one area alone.
