Moody Gardens is a great family attraction and a great educational tourist destination in Galveston, Texas. It was first opened in 1986 and seeks to use nature to educate visitors about conservation and wildlife. Moody Gardens are one of the top things to do in Galveston and should be part of anyone's itinerary. Galveston Island is a remarkable destination with plenty of marine life like dolphins and sharks to see as well as stunning beaches.

They had humble beginnings as with a horse barn in the mid-1980s. It has grown to become one of the leading educational and leisure facilities in the Southwest.


Moody Gardens - A Leading Conservation Attraction In The Southwest

Moody Gardens has three main pyramid attractions called the Aquarium Pyramid, the Rainforest Pyramid, and the Discovery Pyramid.

Another attraction at Moody Gardens includes Palm Beach. Palm Beach is a landscaped white sand beach with a small kid's water park. It has a lazy river, tower slides, a hot tub, lagoons, and more. Palm Beach is open seasonally between May 28th and September 5th; it is also not included in the value pass.

They also have theaters, including the 3D Theater, 4D Special FX Theater, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. See their website for schedules for specific dates and opening times.

Another attraction is the robes course, and zipline that's open from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm (it is not included with the value pass). Finally, plan one's visit around their Colonel Paddlewheel Boat (be at the boat at least 30 minutes before the scheduled departure).

Moody Gardens' Aquarium Pyramid

The Aquarium Pyramid is around 12 stories high and houses some 10,000 marine animals. It has penguins, sharks, seals, and many fish with species representing the different regions of the oceans, including the South Pacific, South Atlantic, North Pacific, and the Caribbean.

The Aquarium Pyramid is one of the of largest in the region and is a great place for children to learn about the world's marine life.

These are some of the Southwest's largest aquariums, with some 1.5 million gallons of water.

At the aquarium, visitors learn about the importance of the oceans and the different marine sanctuaries in the oceans. They also offer penguin and river otter encounters that will have the children delighted. They aim to help inspire interest and empathy for the world's marine ecosystems.

Moody Gardens' Rainforest Pyramid

As the name suggests, the Rainforest Pyramid contains tropical flora and fauna of the world's rainforests. One will see free-roaming monkeys, two-toed sloths, butterflies, birds, reptiles, and more from the rainforests.

Take a journey from the rainforest's treetops to the forest floor below. See the rich tapestry of life that inhabits the world's rainforests in a number of exhibits. They also have their European Bee Colony, Decomposers Gallery, Leafcutter Ant exhibit in the Sunrise Gallery, and more to provide a greater overview of the rainforest's wildlife.

Moody Gardens' Discovery Pyramid

The third pyramid is the Discovery Pyramid. It is focused on science-oriented exhibits and activities. Visitors explore the connection between music, science, and mathematics. Learn about what makes music and about the crossroads of technology.

There are a number of interactive exhibits. Communicate through whisper pipes or rock a tune on the Theremin.
