Just when we thought we've seen it all from our favorite comfort food companies, Pepsi has come out with a flavor that seems to break all the rules. Granted, this isn't actually a food but it does taste like one: Apple Pie.

This flavor will be limited edition (which means it will likely sell out before half of all Pepsi fans have a chance to try the unusual concoction), and, according to Pepsi, every aspect of this carbonated drink has been created to remind apple pie fans of their favorite dessert in every way. The soda itself has cinnamon and apple flavor along with hints of something that's presumed to imitate a buttery crust. Pepsi recommends serving this soda over ice as it will enhance the full mouthfeel and even its texture is meant to imitate the traditional pie. And somehow, through all of that, this soda still maintains its original Pepsi flavor underneath all of that apple pie goodness.

The vice president of Pepsi, Todd Kaplan, said in a statement, "Failing at baking—especially this year—is nothing to be ashamed of, and we’re celebrating those amateur bakers that are truly trying their best during a unique holiday season. With Pepsi Apple Pie, we’re providing a refreshingly delicious twist on the traditional slice of apple pie, while making sure people have some fun and don’t take themselves too seriously in the process." And we're pretty sure that's exactly what the world could use a little more of these days. So, in tribute to the unique new flavor, we're throwing it back to the strangest flavors from around the world that Pepsi has created prior to this festive release.

Pepsi Ice Cucumber

Pepsi has had many flavors that were successful and some that were altogether strange choices. Pepsi Ice Cucumber fell somewhere in between the two with the flavor itself being quite unusual but the actual Pepsi product being fairly delicious, albeit subtle. This Pepsi was released in Japan back in 2007 and was the first (and only) cucumber-flavored soda released by the company, with less flavor than the original Pepsi flavor.

Pepsi White

In Japan, Pepsi White was fairly popular due to the surge of yogurt-flavored soda that appeared on the scene during 2008. The soda itself looked just as unusual as it tasted, with a milky white appearance that looked nothing like any type of soda out there on the market at the time. The releases for this Pepsi flavored were short-lived but it did okay, with other yogurt flavors appearing for a short time afterward.

Crystal Pepsi

In the early 90s, this Pepsi came out and became incredibly popular with people all over. Those who were old enough to be drinking soda between 1992 and 1993 will likely remember it due to the massive reputation it garnered as being one of the most successful Pepsi flavors up until that point. Funny enough, there was nothing extraordinarily special about this soda other than the fact that it was clear (crystal-clear, obviously); however, its reputation was more than enough to bring it back a second time since the people demanded it.

Pepsi Holiday Spice

This flavor was only available in the US and Canada during 2004 and it was one of those flavors that presented itself with an acquired taste. It wasn't overly popular despite the holiday craze that everyone seems to sink into this time of the year, and its festive flavorings simply weren't enough to keep it from sinking below the average Pepsi rating. However, there were some who truly loved it and wish they'd bring it back, but the chances of that happening don't seem too high.

Pepsi Salty Watermelon

Salted watermelon is actually a thing and while sugar and salt have been two common flavor combinations, there's something unusual about seeing them combined with Pepsi - although there are people out there who still drop salted peanuts into their soda, so who knows. This limited flavor was released in Japan during 2012 and it seemed like the perfect summer flavor in theory. As it turns out, it wasn't completely out of line in terms of flavor and popularity.

Pepsi Fire

It takes a certain type of person to appreciate anything cinnamon-flavored, as the spice itself can come on very strong depending on what it's used to flavor. While cinnamon is great in small amounts such as desserts and coffee drinks, it seems that Pepsi was a bit overzealous when they created this limited-edition soda. It's currently available in several countries and it seems that the consensus is a bit mixed as to how good it actually is.
