Every hotel room hides a dirty secret and sometimes, the ads you see on brochures can be a little deceiving. Some hotels are mismanaged and disorganized nowadays and you'd be surprised that even the most luxurious brands forget to take out the trash every now and then.

For many people, star ratings don't matter. A clean, comfortable bed and a hot meal are most important. But what happens when hotels forget (or ignore) health standards? Do they care about their guests or are they busy counting money?

So remember: don't be fooled the next time you rent a room. Always inspect your room. Demand a refund if something goes wrong. And bring a UV flashlight.

Sit back and relax as we count down the 20 Dirtiest Hotel Chains in the US.

20 Invisibly Dirty (Ramada Hotels)

Fluids dripping all over the walls, hair in the sink, and an uncleaned fridge await you at the fabulous Ramada Hotels. Also, don't forget to bring a pair of slippers because hotel carpets accumulate all the dirt in the room. Well, at least they offer free breakfast to everyone.

19 Affordable But Flooded (Best Value Inn)

It's so disgusting that it looks like it was built in the middle of a swamp. Their bathrooms are so dirty, their floors look like they were covered in poo. One reviewer stated that management doesn't even bother to clean up the mess left behind by previous tenants.

18 A Murky Mess (Econo Lodge)

A good swimming pool can lure lots of guests in. Econo Lodge, however, is well known for treating their pools like a dump. It's so horrible that you might think the city's sewage must be flowing directly to their pools.

17 A Stained Holiday (Holiday Inn)

Holiday Inn seems like a perfect place to stay until you see their towels. A close inspection reveals overused towels. Pair that with a cold breakfast, and their ratings will soon go from three-star to no star at all. You were probably just lured in by their inviting, green logo.

16 Polluted Air (Hyatt Place Hotels)

What would you do if your hotel room "smelled like burnt plastic"? I'd cover my nose and sleep on it but demand a full refund the next day. Out of all the hotels in this list, Hyatt Place is one of the most unique. Their guests contract respiratory diseases every now and then.

15 Why Are The Sheets So Wet? (Baymont Inn)

A sticky bed can't give a good night's sleep. Baymont Inn guests always need to inspect the pillows and sheets before they settle down given that the staff will never issue a refund. For some reason, their phones also don't function.

14 Worst Bathrooms (Best Western Hotels)

A good bathroom would be a redeeming quality if you had no choice but to stay in a bad room. Unfortunately, at Best Western, you will most likely be greeted by a nasty toilet. It would be better to spend the night on the streets then.

13 Spoiled Food (Comfort Inn)

Breakfast buffets are an important amenity. After all, a well-fed customer is a satisfied customer. Stale cereal and disgusting juice are just some of the available food that comes with your stay. It's surprising to think that health inspectors still haven't quarantined this branch.

12 A Dusty Time Capsule (Days Inn)

Their rooms are so dusty, they look like they haven't been cleaned for a decade. Make sure you bring your own vacuum cleaner. Their carpets remain uncleaned and rooms are so smelly. This is a hellish hotel.

11 A Quality Dump (Quality Inn)

It's a shame Quality Inn is on the list because they have one of the warmest hotel staff you could wish for. Hallways are littered with used towels. Not only that, they don't have any elevators. This hotel will make your stay more exhausting than relaxing.

10 Inhospitable (AC Hotels)

A hotel not owned by Wyndham is on the list? What a relief. Marriott owns it though. A reminder that we aren't safe even at luxury hotels and how housekeeping and a cold breakfast can ruin your stay. One reviewer stated that this hotel has some of the lowest standards around.

9 Luxurious Disaster (Double Tree)

A Hilton Hotel is also on this list. A DoubleTree room in North Carolina was so nasty because there was unknown, brown liquid dripping all over the walls (I wonder what that is). It's a good thing the staff was kind enough to clean the problem.

8 Rotten (Microtel Inn)

Microtel rooms are synonymous to jail cells. Faucets and showers don't work, windows are too filthy and staff is not too kind. Also, don't use or touch their towels. You never know how many years the room wasn't visited by housekeeping.

7 Skeletons Under The Bed (Motel 6)

The Motel 6 brand will forever be notorious for being dirty. Not just because of poor management but how it's also a dumping ground for dead bodies. Aside from that, it has been a crime magnet for the past few months. It's also known for bad customer service. Our advice: don't even try.

6 Decrepit (Hawthorn Suites)

"Just don't go there," one hotel reviewer cautioned on TripAdvisor. Hawthorn Suites is owned by Wyndham, which explains why management is of poor quality as always: trash cans are always full, uncomfortable beds and dirty bathrooms are always present in these chains of hotels.

5  A 5-Star Mess (Crowne Plaza Hotels)

You know it's bad when there are complaints of dirty underwear left behind by previous guests. Crowne Plaza hallways are also notoriously stinky, and furniture looks like it hasn't been cleaned for ages. Just because it has a 5-star rating doesn't mean it's completely safe.

4 Don't Let The Bed Bugs Bite (La Quinta Inns)

They have gross pillows. Some person probably vomited on them, imagine laying down on that. Let this photo serve as a reminder to always check pillowcases on your next stay. And maybe stay away from La Quinta Inns.

3 Sneaky Tenants (Residence Inn)

It seems like bugs are frequent guests at the Residence Inn. The hotel management probably forgot the real meaning of sanitation and housekeeping is very unprofessional when handling these matters. Don't forget to bring pesticides if you ever plan to stay.

2 Fresh From The Thrift Shop (Westin Hotels)

The Westin was probably sponsored by the Salvation Army Thrift Stores. The preoccupied staff, though, is not much of a problem. The dirty furniture is. The hotel needs a proper makeover.

1 Lovely Wallpaper (Hampton Hotels)

This one was a generous review. This chain is the lesser evil of all the other hellish hotels. But they always seem to have sticky situations from the walls to the carpets. Don't even dare touch the liquid (we don't know what it is).
