Due to the artificial glitz and glam that is engulfed into the town, Hollywood has often been accused of being a selfish city and being an entertainer in the industry is a selfish practice. The stereotype often pushed forward is that the people of Hollywood are phony because they spend too much time trying to looking attractive and spruced up opposed to dedicating that time, effort, and money towards charitable causes. The truth is that the Hollywood lifestyle is much more complicated than that.
The Hollywood star or starlet is not doing anything to their face or body that most of us regular folks would not be doing as well if we had the money, sources, and power to do so. There is nothing wrong with spending some time on yourself following all of the hard work that you put in to reach superstardom. And that is not to say that Hollywood superstars do not work effortlessly in charitable causes as well. Celebs do just as much with charitable things with their money as they do doing things that one of us on the outside may consider to be "wasteful."
Take Jennifer Aniston for example. The Golden Globe-winning actress has donated, supported, and brought awareness to a number of charitable causes and organizations. In the same regard, she had bought enough personal possession and had enough work on herself done that some would call "wasteful." Below are both sides of the coin; how Aniston spends her money mindfully and how she splurges on herself.
26 WASTEFUL: A SNAZZY LOOKING BENTLEY
Unlike most celebrities, Jennifer Aniston is not notorious for stacking up a massive car collection and does not have a reputation with filling up her garage with loads of cars. However, one car that we have been known to frequently catch the Emmy winner driving around town is her beloved Bentley.
We're not sure what year it is, but that is most definitely a Bentley Continental GT. Regardless of the makeshift, Bentleys are never cheap. The price of most Bentleys usually start at $200,000-300,000, and if she got a newer model at the time, Aniston probably kicked out double that amount of cash.
25 CHARITABLE: OFFERING ACTORS OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH FILM COMPANY
It's not easy for up and coming actors to find work in this industry as new acts, but through her own movie studios, Aniston is constantly giving new opportunities to hot young actors and older actors don't get the recognition they deserve.
Not only has she produced a number of her own movies, but Jennifer Aniston also opened up her own film studio called Echo Films in 2008 where she has the power to produce whatever film she wants to.
24 WASTEFUL: HER SLEEK RANGE ROVER
Jennifer Aniston has been spotted around Hollywood driving around one of seemingly the most prized cars in her possession: a Range Rover. We do not know which model, makeshift, or year that the car comes from, but a big fat black car with "RANGE ROVER" splashed across it in big fat letters are pretty hard to miss.
We also do not know how much money the Golden Globe-winning actress kicked out to own it, but Range Rovers typically run up at least $88,860 on the bill.
23 CHARITABLE: SUPPORTING FEEDING AMERICA
Founded in 1979, Feeding America is a United States-based non-profit organization that focuses on feeding impoverished citizens through food banks, soup kitchens, and shelters. As the world's third largest charity organization, Feeding America is a network for over 200 food banks that have in total fed more than 46 million people.
At a Feeding America cocktail party in 2009, Jennifer Aniston revealed that she was one of many celebrity backers in support of the organization.
22 WASTEFUL: HER PRETTY LITTLE TOYOTA PRIUS
Another car that Jennifer Aniston is frequently seen spotted in is her pretty little baby, the Toyota Prius. Again, we fail to know the price or the year of the car. In terms of the former, Toyota Prius's typically run up for at least $23,475. In terms of the latter, we haven't a clue in the world.
Regardless of the year, a Toyota Prius is always good for the environment. Since the car is a hybrid car, the car is naturally environmentally friendly, and we're happy to see Aniston is conscious enough to be on the lookout for cars like that.
21 CHARITABLE: SUPPORTING BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SOCIETY
Started in 1971 but only founded in its present form as of 1993, the Best Friends Animal Society is a non-profit animal shelter organization that dedicates itself to providing rescue shelters for animals and providing nationwide shelters for them. The organization also promotes animal adoption, no-kill animal rescue, and owners spaying and neutering their pets.
Not only is Jennifer Aniston in support of the non-profit organization, but she also bought a dog through the organization back in 2012.
20 WASTEFUL: PAYING A PRIVATE MASSEUR TO COME TO HER HOUSE
Everybody could use a relaxing break at the spa every once in a while when times get tough, especially celebs. Celebrities are dealt with the daunting tasks related to travelling, acting, more travelling, dealing with crazy fans, keeping up a certain image, etc.
Jennifer Aniston is no different, but according to an anonymous insider who spoke to US Magazine back in 2016, she prefers for the spa to come to her rather than going to her. Aniston would rather go the extra mile to hire private masseurs to come to her and treat her to a special spa day in the comfort of her own home.
19 CHARITABLE: SUPPORTING DOCTORS WITHOUT BORDERS
Médecins Sans Frontières - also known as MSF, which itself translates to Doctors Without Borders - is an international non-government organization focused on projects in countries at conflict zones that deal with treating endemic diseases. It was originally founded by French doctors and nurses.
Jennifer Aniston is one of the organizations most well known and most charitable supporters. In the past, the Friends star donated $500,000 to Doctors Without Borders, which in turn helped spread more public awareness to the humanitarian organization.
18 WASTEFUL: USING BOTTLES OF SPRAY TAN
As a celebrity who needs to look as bright and shiny as possible for when she gets snapped by the paparazzi, Jennifer Aniston regularly visits the Ibiza tanning salon in West Hollywood for an airbrush tan.
While it is not the most expensive thing on this list - Aniston's spray tanning sessions only cost about $45 per session - but tan only lasts about five days on the skin before someone would have to get a new coating. Aniston could be spending that $45 a week on something charitable.
17 CHARITABLE: DONATING TO HELP HAITI
In 2010, the country of Haiti was rocked by a massive earthquake that had a life toll of 100,000-160,000; among them being pivotal Haitian leaders like the Archbishop of Port-au-Prince Joseph Serge Miot. As if that was not bad enough, Haiti was also engulfed in destruction, resulting in several landmarks being destroyed.
Aniston was emotionally shaken by the devastation enough to donate $500,000 to Haiti relief funds. In addition, she participated in the Hope for Haiti telethon, which celebs helped raise more than $60 million.
16 WASTEFUL: HAVING TWO NOSE JOBS
It has been reported in the past that Jennifer Aniston has gotten plastic surgery work done to correct a deviated septum. Although, some speculate that she did it just flat out get a new nose. In either case, she did not receive a cheap plastic surgery procedure by any stretch of the imagination.
When it comes down to going under the knife to receive the average rhinoplasty operation, most doctors charge anywhere between $9,000 and $12,000. Keep in mind that Aniston has been rumored to have two nose jobs, so that would have been a charge of $18,000.
15 CHARITABLE: PURCHASING ART FOR A GOOD CAUSE
In the wake of the Haiti tragedy of 2010, Jennifer Aniston was heavily involved in taking part in relief funds to help Haiti out. Her help did not end with a mere $500,000 donation.
In 2011, her help continued when she and then-partner Justin Theroux attended the Artists for Haiti event where celebrities in attendance were encouraged to purchase art pieces so that all proceeds could go to Haiti relief funds. Together, Aniston and Theroux purchased half a million dollars worth of priceless art.
14 WASTEFUL: BUYING SMART WATER INSTEAD OF DRINKING FROM THE TAP
The cheapest means to drink water would be to drink straight from the sink tap. However, a lot of us prefer to buy our water in packages from the store and Jennifer Aniston is one of those people who prefer bottled water.
Frankly, in light of the Flint water crisis, the safest means to drink water would be to buy bottled water - especially if you're a Michigander - but Aniston opts to buy some of the most expensive water out there: Smart Water. Of course, she gets paid to sponsor them, but that doesn't make it any less expensive. One 24 bottle pack costs $30.
13 CHARITABLE: SUPPORTING EQUAL RIGHTS
Jennifer Aniston has always been an avid supporter for equal rights. She played a role on the 2007 FX show Dirt at a time when it was still taboo to even touch roles like that. Before same-gender marriage was legalized, she was vocal about her support for it and was ecstatic when New York passed the bill.
When awarded the GLAAD Vanguard Award, awarded to her by friend Jake Gyllenhaal, Aniston had this to say: "This is called the Vanguard Award which in some ways suggests I'm at the forefront, but I'm here with you tonight to say that I'm proud to stand not in front of you, but I stand right beside you. 12 WASTEFUL: BUYING DOZENS OF HOMES SHE'S NOT LIVING IN
Maybe this is a rich person thing that us poor folks will just never understand unless we ever become rich, but we haven't the faintest idea why so many celebs buy houses they're not even living in. One person - and possibly their family and/or partner - can only live in one house at once and buying multiple houses at different parts of the world seems wasteful.
Aniston herself owns several homes where she spends thousands of dollars a month paying for that she probably hardly sleeps in. She's had homes in Beverly Hills, Hal Levitt, New York City, Gramercy Park, and Los Angeles (among others) all at once.
11 CHARITABLE: SUPPORTING ST. JUDE'S HOSPITAL
For over a decade now, Jennifer Aniston has been one of the most vocal celebrity supporters of St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. Ever since 2008, Aniston has appeared in dozens of commercials for St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in hopes of raising money for the hospital as well as spread awareness for the hospital and what they do for children around the world.
Aniston often visits the hospital to meet with children with serious ailments and diseases in order to bring a lasting smile onto their face.
10 WASTEFUL: REGULAR SKI TRIPS WITH FRIENDS
Jennifer Aniston favorite pastime seems to be skiing, seeing that every time it gets to the time of the year when it's freezing cold in the winter, there's always news about her taking some kind of ski trip.
Every year, we see reports of Aniston going on some kind of ski trip with her then-beau Justin Theroux, or any one of her famous friends like Sandra Bullock and Jason Bateman.
She has been seen sliding down slopes at ski resorts in Telluride, Colorado and in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
9 CHARITABLE: DONATING TO THE TIME'S UP CAMPAIGN
In the wake of the #MeToo movement that sent shockwaves across Hollywood, one positive thing to emerge from it was the Time's Up campaign. The campaign was kickstarted in order to tackle serious situations in the entertainment industry.
When Jennifer Aniston teamed up with fellow acting colleagues Reese Witherspoon and Meryl Streep, the three Golden Globe winners each donated a sum of $500,000 to the campaign's GoFundMe page.
8 WASTEFUL: MAKEUP AND BEAUTY ROUTINE
Like most celebrities on the sizzling hot Hollywood scene, Jennifer Aniston acquires the makeup services of one Angela Levin. Aniston revealed in a Harper's Bazaar magazine all of the beauty products that she and her makeup artist uses on her face.
Total Beauty decided to do the math to figure out the cost of owning all of those makeup items PLUS a makeup artist on hand. The makeup by itself seems to amount to $402. While we do not know Levin's asking price for celebs, most celebrity makeup artists have an asking price as high as $4,000 per day.
7 CHARITABLE: DONATING TO PUERTO RICO HURRICANE RELIEF
In 2017, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria, the deadliest hurricane in the Atlantic area since 2004. Puerto Rico was hit by immense flooding, lack of resources, and the worst electrical blackout in United States history.
In the wake of the tragedy caused by Hurricane Maria, Jennifer Aniston was one of many celebrities who reached out with their dollars to help the people of Puerto Rico. In Aniston's case, she donated $1 million to the Red Cross Foundation and the Ricky Martin Foundation.
