Solo traveling women began as a trend, and now many are falling for it as a lifestyle. Women around the globe are getting tired of waiting for anyone to join them, so they're taking matters into their own hands and jet-setting off by themselves. Some places are deemed safer than others, while others just feel totally off-limits. If you're a woman looking to shatter those stereotypes by solo traveling to an off-the-beaten-path destination, a place that's a little risqué, or maybe a place that typically honeymooners head to, this is the list for you.

10 Egypt

Egypt often gets a bad reputation for female travelers in general, so it gets an even worst one for women traveling alone. Though there have been several reports by the most avid of solo female travelers that they'd never return to Egypt alone, if you're still curious, there are ways Egypt can be done safely alone. The most surefire way is to hire a guide for either the duration of your entire trip or at least for the major sites. Another great way to visit Egypt, even if traveling alone, is by joining a small-group tour. That way, you can travel alone without ever really being alone.

9 The Dominican Republic

What has become one of the most popular destinations wedding locations can also be enjoyed as a solo female traveler. Who says you need a buddy to enjoy an all-inclusive resort? Now more than ever is a great time to visit The Dominican Republic since all travel restrictions have been lifted. Try staying at Vik Arenal Blanca All-Inclusive in Punta Cana. It won't break the bank, with prices as low as $100/night for all-inclusive packages, meaning all food, drinks, coffees, access to the pool, and more are included in your stay. Despite being the most popular tourist island in the Caribbean, the Dominican Republic doesn't always get the best safety reputation, but if you want to travel there alone, staying at an all-inclusive resort with maybe a day tour is certainly a good bet.

8 France

The city of Paris is commonly known as the City of Love. This idea might deter solo ladies from traveling there, but why should it? Who says you can't love yourself? Head to this romantic city, and don't fear to venture to other parts of the country. Down South, treat yourself to a proper getaway in Nice, where you can sip rosé by the seaside and maybe even make a pit stop in the nearby country of Monaco. 7 India

Similarly to Egypt, India often gets a bad reputation from women who have dared to venture there alone. It is still indeed possible, so long as you have thick skin. It is recommended only to travel solo as a female to India if you are somewhat well-traveled, as the culture shock to most travelers, whether solo or with a group, can be daunting. If you're going to venture to India alone, you might as well go in luxury since it's already so incredibly affordable. Like Egypt, a great option is to join an all-female tour group, so you'll never really be alone. Don't miss out on seeing one of the Wonders of the World just because you're afraid to go there alone!

6 Iraqi Kurdistan

Anyone who looks on a map and sees where Kurdistan is might immediately say, "No, thanks," when suggested to travel there. Don't let geographical locations deter you; Kurdistan is one of the least conservative regions in the Middle East, and women who venture there alone won't stand out like a sore thumb like they would in other nearby nations. Kurdistan is fairly liberal, and with plenty of places to eat, shop, and sight-see, you'll start to question everything you've been taught about the "dangerous" Middle East.

5 Saudi Arabia

For a long time, solo women could not enter Saudi Arabia without being accompanied by a husband, father, male relative, or sponsor. Thanks to Saudi's new 2030 Vision Campaign, women are officially free to travel to the Kingdom... even alone! Saudi has changed the rules for women traveling so stringently that even the dress code for female tourists has changed. Of course, it's still customary to keep in mind local laws, but so long as you show up respecting Saudi culture, traveling through the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia can be a surreal experience for solo female travelers.

4 Colombia

What has been once riddled with a horrid reputation is no more. Colombia is perfectly safe for most women to travel to. It's also extremely affordable if you need the extra incentive. Direct flights from the US can be found for under $200 from cities such as New York or Miami, and once you're there, Colombia will hardly break the bank. A tourist favorite is Cartagena, where you can eat delicious street arepas, watch local dancers at night, and explore the fascinating colored Old Walls. People might tell you that you shouldn't go to Colombia by yourself; book that ticket and prove them wrong, and have a fabulous time while doing so.

3 French Polynesia

A popular honeymoon destination, French Polynesia is a remote set of islands in the South Pacific, offering crystal-clear blue waters met with perfectly contrasting white sand beaches. Sure, French Polynesia is most famous for its overwater bungalows in Bora Bora, but what is often advertised as only a couple's paradise can easily become a solo female traveler's paradise as well. Break those barriers of the need to travel with a romantic partner, and treat yourself to a tropical oasis, party-of-one. Mo'orea is a great island to explore on your own. You can rent a motorbike for $50/day, and if you're worried about being lonely, you can stay at a hostel or shared Airbnb. If you really want to go for it, and if you have the budget to do so, rent an overnight bungalow at one of the many luxury hotels on the island. If you want to get into conservation, try planting some coral with Coral Gardeners.

2 Mexico

Closely situated to the USA lies a nation that has beautiful beaches, high-quality food, affordable healthcare, and even a world wonder. This magical place is Mexico. Despite being labeled negatively in the US news, Mexico is a great place to head alone as a female traveler, especially if you're looking to prove some people wrong when it comes to stereotypes. Tulum is a great option for partying, Mexico City is a great option for delicious food, and Sayulita is a great place to go off-the-beaten-path. Whatever your choice, you're bound to have a blast in Mexico. Just use the general safety precautions you'd use anywhere else, and then rub it in your friends and family's faces about how wrong they were that Mexico is dangerous for women to travel to alone.

1 Kenya

An African nation that truly has an appetite for everyone is Kenya. The bustling capital of Nairobi can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you're traveling alone, so head out elsewhere to the more serene parts of the nation. Lake Nakuru offers a cheap safari for broke solo travelers, and a guide is required, meaning you can essentially get a private safari tour for cheap. Head out to Mombasa, a fabulous beach town on Kenya's coast. Africa is often labeled as dangerous, despite it being filled with 54 vastly different nations, so go for it; you might even surprise yourself.
