Two men have been caught on camera trespassing near Old Faithful in an incredibly stupid stunt that has landed them in hot water.

It is incredibly dangerous to be anywhere near Old Faithful. While Yellowstone's most predictable geyser has blown its top every 44 to 125 minutes for as long as recorded history, that doesn't mean it won't be a little early or a little late in the future.

Why is it dangerous? Because Old Faithful is a geothermal geyser, meaning the water that comes out is under extremely high pressure and is very, very hot. If you survive being struck by that much water at such high velocity, then it will certainly leave you with some pretty nasty burns.

There is abundant signage near old faithful to warn away trespassers with the threat of either injury or legal repercussions, but that didn't seem to stop two idiots from walking right past the fence. One of them even stuck his head over the geyser's opening, which is a great way to get yourself killed.

The story was shared on the Facebook page "Yellowstone National Park: Invasion of The Idiots!" The original post has been removed, but KRTV reports that Kimberly Guilliams saw the whole thing go down herself.

"So this happened this past Tuesday at Old Faithful,” she wrote. “They even leaned more over the opening but just didn't get a photo. They were caught, reports were filed and I submitted photos to the Park Ranger. We were in total disbelief and the complete stupidity of these guys."

Yellowstone has a long litany of warnings on their website regarding Old Faithful, including reasons why merely stepping foot in off-limits areas could endanger wildlife, but the but one is that Old Faithful is just a dangerous place to be.

Luckily, local authorities have been notified and the two men now face charges for “thermal trespassing,” whatever that is.
