There are certain ways to pack when you're heading off on a new adventure, and today, we feel the need to point out a few simple errors that people always make in regards to packing something in their suitcase when it really belongs in their carry-on.

Sometimes it's just a case of an accidental slip into the suitcase more so than anything deliberate. After all, travelers (especially newbies) often feel frazzled and toss stuff in at the last minute. But either way, we want to try and point out a few items that quite clearly need to be with you at all times on a flight.

We realize you'd probably need a Mary Poppins style of bag in order for this to work, but we still think it's valid. Just prioritize what you'll actually use, and stick to these guidelines.

Whether it be a little bottle of sweets that you want to eat throughout the course of the flight or roll-up deodorant to help you smell a little bit better, these are particularly crucial if there's a long-haul flight that is going to involve an awful lot of downtime as you fly through the sky.

19 Makeup

This is valid for both makeup itself and makeup remover because both items are key. Once you've landed at your final destination, slapping on some more makeup in order to look as fresh as a daisy is priority number one for more people than you might've thought.

18 Head Pillow

Comfort is key.

Because you can often hang or attach your head pillow to your suitcase before checking it in and sending it off to the plane, we've seen so many people forget to unattach it before the bag gets sent off. It's a truly heartbreaking (yet hilarious) moment.

17 Snacks From Home

Firstly, if you put food or drinks from home into your suitcase it's automatically going to raise more questions. Secondly, snacks really aren't that big and we think the whole point of a trip is to explore a different culture and different cuisine. Finish that food on the plane, my dudes.

16 Laptop

More often than not you won't be able to connect to the wifi or anything like that, but if you happen to have an epiphany and you want to type away a portion of that novel you've been working on, you can't do so without your laptop. Plus, it'll be much safer in the carry-on.

15 Spare Shoes

We like to have a spare pair of shoes with us in a carry-on in case we just wanna kick back and put on something more comfortable. It gives you a little bit more freedom, and more often than not, it'll free up a little bit of space in your suitcase.

14 Inhaler

For the love of god don't forget the inhaler if you happen to have asthma.

If it isn't a severe case then it probably won't be too bad, but there are often far too many incidents in which this happens and the cabin crew panics as the one key tool to help aid you isn't present.

13 Reading Material

Whether it's the New York Times or a good old fashioned book that you're halfway through, this is quite literally the perfect time to dive back into your reading material. Planes aren't always the most peaceful, but it's still a good place to catch up.

12 Stress Toy

Flying is a stressful experience and we won't hesitate to suggest that anyone who says any different is lying. Therefore, a stress toy in order to deal with the severity of your situation (depending on how bad it is), will be much more useful in your pocket than in your suitcase.

11 Mouthwash

Yes, we understand the logic behind thinking that it'll come in handy upon arriving at the hotel, but it'll also be good for a long-haul flight if your breath is less than stellar. Just pop to the bathroom and bada-bing bada-boom, you're sorted for another few hours.

10 Spare T-Shirt

Luggage gets lost all the time and overpacking with shirts in your suitcase isn't going to help anyone. However, if it's in your carry-on, then at least you won't have to wear the very same clothes you've got on for days whilst you wait for the luggage to arrive.

9 Protected Headphones

A lot of folks have headphones that require special cases or boxes in order to make sure they don't get damaged. Because of this, their mind will dictate that they should go in the suitcase when we all know they really belong on your ears when the flight is in progress.

8 Notebook

Who doesn't like writing down their thoughts 24 hours a day, seven days a week? Notebooks are viewed as being fairly old school but we think they're making a comeback, and it can be fun to jot down a few ideas or even doodle for a while to pass the time.

7 Extra Underwear

First of all: don't underestimate the possibility of wetting yourself on a plane, especially if this is the first flight you've ever been on.

Secondly, this comes back to the luggage issue as there's nothing worse than wearing the same pair of underwear a few days in a row.

If it's good enough for Emily Ratajkowski, it's good enough for us.

Bring your water bottle, wait until you get through security and fill it up. Don't just forget about it, because you could save yourself a bit of money - and help the environment out in the process!

5 iPad

Bring an iPad, pre-load something onto Netflix, and don't be fooled into thinking that your device will be completely useless because you're in the sky. iPads are wonderful things and will help out big time if there's nothing you like on the in-flight entertainment.

4 Lip Balm

For some reason everyone's lips tend to get a little bit drier in the sky than back down on the ground, and yet, nowhere near enough people use lip balm. This is especially true for guys, and that weird stigma needs to change.

3 Medication

It's not all too complicated of an idea: ensure your medication is with you at all times in case of emergency.

We don't care what the emergency may be or even if it's particularly relevant: but it's all about being safe as opposed to sorry.

2 Travel Socks

These can be pretty chunky things and we understand that, but it's worth taking the hit on your storage space in order to feel a little bit of comfort. Travel socks make you feel like you're chilling at home on the sofa instead of in a cramped seat - so it's a win-win.

1 Phone Charger

For some reason, there's an impression that planes don't have charge sockets these days when most of them do. Even if you're on a cheaper airline, you could just use the USB socket on your laptop to plug in your charger, and then you're off to the races.
