It takes a lot of work to finally get in the habit of exercising so many times a week and oftentimes traveling ruins that. Whether its a one week vacation or a month-long stint overseas, your practiced routine is thrown out the window by the time you return to reality. You shouldn't have to take a vacation from this healthy habit and there are some things you can do to prevent your mind from falling for any weak excuses.

There are so many things you can do to modify your routine, or even take it on the road with you. Keep reading to learn ten tips to sticking to your exercise routine on vacation!

10 10. Lookup Workout Facilities Near Where You Are Staying

If you want to keep your routine exactly the same as it is back home then you should consider looking up workout facilities near where you are staying. Many have one week free trials or cheap day passes so you don't have to skimp at all during your travels.

If you plan to stay in a hotel, many have gym facilities that are free for guests to use. They are usually relatively simple with a few free weights and some cardio equipment, but anything is better than nothing when it comes to exercise.

9 9. Pack Some Light Equipment

It might not be possible to pack your weights or your treadmill in your bag, but you can pack some lighter equipment as an alternative.

This includes things like resistance bands and a jump rope, which can offer you a decent workout and won't take up much space in your bag. It is also important to make sure you pack your workout clothes and shoes as that would be one of the biggest ways to talk yourself out of sticking to your routine.

8 8. Modify Your Routine

If you work out at the gym and you don't have the time during your vacation to find one, then you should consider modifying your routine. There are plenty of short routines online that use only your bodyweight to perform them.

If you happen to bring your phone with you it is also possible to download an app to walk you through a round of activities that vary in time. It may not be the best workout you have ever had, but it is still keeping you moving and on a schedule that targets your practiced muscles.

It is your vacation, so there is no better way to exercise than to incorporate some exercise-related activities into your itinerary. This could be biking, hiking, swimming, climbing, and so on. There are so many options that will work out your muscles while still giving you the vacation you deserve.

It is also easier to convince your comrade to exercise with you if it is an activity you know you will both enjoy. There are plenty of parks anywhere you go with hiking trails so you and your friends can exercise as you search for the perfect view.

6 6. Set A Schedule

The best way to make sure you actually exercise is to set a schedule for yourself. If you normally exercise five days a week, it is okay to cut this down to a few days when compared to your normal routine.

Most people on vacation do plenty of walking or other exercise-related activities that make it okay to cut back a little. It is also your vacation and you deserve to sleep in and relax, so cutting back should be mandated for any exercise plan.

5 5. Aim For A Morning Workout

Most days on vacation are filled to the brim with things to do and sights to see, which usually leaves us worn out by the end of the day. This exhaustion, coupled with the fact that it is a vacation, means that your workout isn't going to happen.

You should plan on exercising in the morning before you head out to experience all the world has to offer because it doesn't lend for excuses. It will be entirely up to you to wake up, which for some might be hard, but it is better than collapsing after a long day and neglecting to pursue your routine.

4 4. Pack Healthy Snacks

Eating healthy and maintaining this kind of diet is important to your daily exercise habits. If all you eat is junk, then exercising won't solve any of your problems or make you feel very good when you try to go through with your routine.

You should be able to eat what you want while on vacation, but eating healthy should still be at the back of your mind. If you pack some healthy snacks for the road, it will prevent you from craving sweets or choosing to eat six meals in a single day.

3 3. Have Someone to Hold You Accountable

Chances are you are probably traveling with at least one other person. You should ask them to hold you accountable for your routine. This could mean they wake you up every morning and make sure you actually do it, or you make a bet with them about the number of days you will exercise.

The bet doesn't have to be anything crazy and could be as simple as buying them a beer at the end of the week. Whatever you choose, you will feel morally responsible to carry out your routine because of this person which will help you stick with it to the end.

2 2. Walk Everywhere You Go

There are so many different forms of transportation like buses, trains, and even bicycles. The best way to make sure you are exercising is by choosing to walk everywhere you go.

You might have the option to rent a golf cart or hop on a tram, but none of them will actually help you stay in shape. Vacation is not an excuse to be lazy, so instead of taking the easy way out, choose to walk and feel better about yourself at the same time.

1 1. Don't Be Discouraged By a Poor Workout

You are in a new place with new terrain that you are not accustomed to training on. The same goes for workout equipment, as every gym carries different machines and has various amenities for guests to use. If your workout turns out poorly and seems like the worst you have ever had you shouldn't be discouraged.

It isn't your home court and there are too many factors that could change the outcome of your personal performance. You should hold your head high and keep to your schedule because it is only temporary until you can head home once again.
