Hostels are everywhere in Europe and Europe is arguably the best place to backpack in the world. There are hostels even in the most classy European locations - like Italy's Venice. Hostels in Europe can be cheap and basic accommodations, they can be hipster and snazzy accommodations, and they can even be boutique accommodations.

Venice is a charming city to visit and one that everyone should visit if given a chance. But Venice is also a very expensive destination - especially during the summer months. Hostels are normally the most affordable form of accommodation one can book anywhere - including in Venice. Hostels are typically the go-to accommodation for backpackers and are important for anyone trying to see Europe on a budget.

Hostels In Venice Are A Great Way To Save Money

There are some hostels in the old islands of Venice - like Generator Venice and more B&B style accommodations listed on Hostelworld.com like Ca Dalisera B&B. But most hostels in Venice are located in Venezia Mestre - the modern part of Venice on the mainland.

Thanks to excellent trains, it is super easy to get from Venezia Mestre to the classic island of Venice. It is only a 10-minute train ride and only costs around $1.40 one way.

  • Location: Most On The Modern Mainland At Venezia Mestre
  • Advantage: Much Cheaper Dining Opportunities

One of the advantages of having a hostel on the mainland is that this is also the cheaper (and non-touristic) part of the city. Here one can choose from having drinks and dinner in the historic (aka touristic and expensive) part of the city or enjoying a meal and drinks for half or less of the price on the mainland. If one is on a budget, one can have dinner for as little as 5 Euros ($5) and then head into Venice and just enjoy a wine or cocktail there.

There are a number of hostel accommodation options. While Hostelworld.com typically lists many of the best hostels in places around the world. It also lists B&Bs, hotels, and homestays for people looking to visit Venice. It is very much possible to visit Venice on a budget - there's no reason to break one's budget visiting this romantic Italian city.

Great Location (But Outside Historic Venice)

One can't say it has the best location because it is not on the island of Venice with the many canals. Instead, it is on the mainland in a fairly regular part of the city. But where its location is excellent is that it is just across from the main train station with constant trains running directly into historic Venice.

  • Location: Just Next To The Main Train Station Headed Into Venice

Historic Venice is only a 10-minute train ride from the hostel.
