With countless cities to explore and countries to visit, it seems like airlines are never not busy. From redeyes to 6 am flights, travelers can find an array of times that work well with their schedule.

Wanderlust kicks in around the warmer months, with travelers packing their bags for summer vacation but there are millions of people who travel throughout the year for business, family, and person getaways.

10 Passengers Were Not Wowed By Wow Air

Wow Air began operations from Europe to North America in 2012 and quickly became known for its cheap flights. But after seven years in business, the airline was in financial difficulties. They tried merging with Icelandair to save their business but the partnership fell through.

9 Pan American World Airways Is No Longer Elegant

Pan American World Airways (better known as Pan Am) was a huge airline, well-known throughout the '50s to the '90s. It was known for luxury and flying all over the world but after a terrorist-related plane crash and financial woes with the increase of gas prices, Pan Am went under and never recovered.

8 Continental Needed Help From United Airlines

Continental was huge in the early '80s and '90s before hitting a wall with too many financial burdens. The airline made it big for lying across North America and Mexico but eventually couldn't run on its own anymore. In 2012, Continental merged with United Airlines in order to save itself. And while Continental is no more, United Airlines sure is.

7 Midway Airlines Couldn't Compete

Midway Airlines took off and landed before enough people were able to catch a flight but the name is still memorable.

Midway opened in the early '90s and traveled to select hubs in the US. But after a slump in Wallstreet, cheaper airlines going to similar ports, and in-air tragedies, Midway had too much competition to survive and folded.

6 Say Aloha, Aloha Airlines

The gorgeous islands of Hawaii are part of America but it can be hard to travel to thanks to the ocean. To help islanders get to and from the Main Land, Aloha Airlines was created. The airline was founded in the late '40s and gave fellow competitor Hawaiian Airlines a run for its money but once cheaper "island-hopping" airlines came to be, Aloha Airlines couldn't compete and ended its flights.

5 Swissair Needed Some Help

Swissair was once an influential airline, flying people and back forth from Europe to the Americas. The airline was known for its luxury and fluid income after joining Belair and Ad Astra Aero together but after the attacks in 2001, things took a turn for the worst.

In 2002, all flights were stopped and its assets were acquired by Crossair (now Swiss International Air Lines).

4 Air Berlin Used To Be Number One

Once upon a time, Air Berlin was one of Germany's biggest airlines. But after Etihad Airways pulled out of being a shareholder, Air Berlin crumbled apart. The airline closed in 2017 with European airline Lufthansa buying its aircraft and hiring thousands of its employees to keep up with popularity.

3 Jet Airways Couldn't Offer The Cheap Tickets Travelers Were Looking For

Jet Airways was founded in India and became a well-known international airline. After commencing in 1993, the airline hit financial difficulties when competing airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet began lowering prices.

Jet Airways had a hard time matching the low ticket prices and eventually flew its last flight in 2019.

2 Northwest Airlines Was Saved By Delta

Did anyone else just realize that Northwest Airlines was no more? The airline started operations in America before becoming independent enough to start international travel. It was one of the largest and most successful airlines at the time. However, in 2008, Northwest Airlines merged with Delta to create an even larger airline.

1 ATA Airlines Couldn't Bounce Back From 9/11

ATA Airlines (American Trans Air) was based in Indiana and started off as a charter company. The airline eventually became successful enough to begin flying to vacation destinations and overseas. It was also instrumental in transporting US military troops. Sadly, after 2001 hardships, ATA filed for bankruptcy and was acquired by Southwest Airlines.
