The year 2019 saw a whopping 30 million people embark on cruises around the world. And this number is projected to increase in the years to come.

Every time a cruise ship leaves port, it is sailing towards a new experience for both veteran and newbie cruisers alike.

Regardless of the experience, though, there is one thread that discreetly holds the fibers of cruise ships together as soon as they hoist anchor—rules.

Rules have kept the cruise industry afloat and will remain to do as long as they are in tune with each cruise company's needs. There is no wonder why cruise operators, including Carnival Cruise Line, are imposing super strict rules for their passengers to follow.

To help us keep abreast of what's cool and what's not inside all Carnival cruise ships, here are 15 intense rules passengers have to follow aboard a Carnival cruise.

15 You Can't: Wear Offensive Clothing And Accessories Onboard

In a bid to maintain a neutral environment for all its guests, Carnival Cruise Line has decided to throw a red flag to all clothing styles as well as accessories the company deems offensive.

Thinking of bringing your profanity-laden metal band shirt to let it shout your feelings for you? Think again.

14 You Can't: Discharge, Release Or Throw Unauthorized Items Overboard

More than a couple of years back, a Princess Cruises ship was found guilty of an environmental crime. Carnival Corporation owns Princess Cruises.

The company was slapped with a $40 million fine as a settlement for the said violation, says Milestone Memories. Clearly, they now have rules against this act.

13 You Can't: Be In Your Casual Attire During Formal Dinners

Carnival is making itself clear that cruising is not just about getting to new places. It also makes clear that cruising is all about ultimate dining experiences, too.

During elegant nights, put on your eveningwear, find your favorite main restaurant, and experience what formal dinner on a Carnival ship is.

12 You Can't: Do Anything On The Ship As You Wish As Per Age Limitations

In all Carnival cruise ships, you have to be at a certain age to be able to do something.

Did you bring enough bankrolls exclusively for the casino? Make sure your ID says that you are 18 years old or older at the time. Otherwise, you will be denied entrance.

11 You Can't: Bring Glass Containers In Or Around Pool Areas

The pool is the perfect place to enjoy a perfect cocktail during sea days, right? The only problem is that bringing glass containers in or around Carnival's pool areas is strictly prohibited. This is to minimize injuries.

Who knows when the sea could decide to throw 9-meter-tall waves at you?

10 You Can't: Use Water Amusement Facilities Beyond Operational Hours

Any facility onboard Carnival ships have set business hours, including its water parks. Just because you have paid to be on that ship doesn't mean you can do anything at any time.

Don't forget that the facility needs maintenance and the staff needs rest just like you.

9 You Can't: Use The Waterslide If You Are Either Below The Minimum Height Or Heavier Than The Maximum Weight Requirements

Do you want to unleash the inner child in you on that waterslide? Yes, you can, as long as you have the right height and weight requirement.

You have to be at least 3 feet 5 inches tall and not more than 265 pounds (120 kilos) to use the waterslides.

8 You Can't: Say No To A Mandatory Muster Station Drill

After hearing a siren, did you see passengers bringing life jackets towards a certain area? Don't panic. It is just a muster drill.

During the muster drill, everyone—even children—is expected to join. This gives time for passengers to practice ship evacuation should an actual maritime emergency require it.

7 You Can't: Bring And/Or Scatter Cremated Remains At Sea Without Proper Documentation And Permission

Burial at sea has somehow become big with cruise ship passengers. More often than not, the rite is attended by the ship's captain.

No burial rite can take place, however, if the family or loved ones of the dearly departed failed to comply with the company's policy regarding the practice.

6 You Can't: Put A Reservation To A Sun Lounger (Read: Seat Hogging)

Seat hogging is one of the things that is not tolerated by Carnival.

If the ship staff sees your personal belonging on the lounge chair, it will be tagged with the time it has been spotted. After 40 minutes, be prepared for a walk of shame in claiming your things.

5 You Can't: Get Onboard A Water Shuttle Anytime You Please

There are places where Carnival ships don't have access to a pier. This situation calls for a water shuttle.

Not all guests, however, can go for a port excursion. The ship's captain may or may not let you in a shuttle, depending on the sea condition and your mobility.

4 You Can't: Just Bring Anything On The Ship

Going on a cruise unprepared is a nightmare. That is why packing everything you think might be useful at sea is necessary. No!

There are things that you simply can't bring with you on the ship. Think about fire hazards and you already know what should go in your luggage.

3 You Can't: Use Certain Items While At Sea

Forget about surfboards. They won't be allowed on board. Kites and drones, though, can go with you. Only you are not permitted to use them while at sea.

The same goes for boogie boards, skateboards, golf clubs, and rollerblades. Carnival doesn't want any injuries to happen to anyone onboard.

2 You Can't: Either Check-In Or Carry A Luggage More Than 50Lbs In Weight

Carnival management doesn't allow its guests to either carry or check-in luggage weighing more than 50 pounds.

It says that one piece of luggage is ok for a two-night cruise and not more than two can come along for a cruise five nights or longer.

1 You Can: Get Kicked Off The Ship For Misbehaving

Warning! Carnival Corporation is very strict in implementing its rules.

Thinking of bringing a bottle too many of your favorite spirits onboard? Stringent security checks happen during embarkation day. Random port checks are also done. Don't get caught with prohibited items in your luggage. You could be sent home early.
