There are many snack foods sold only in the United States and these are childhood faves that evoke a lot of strong, warm memories. Even though we might grow up and stop eating these snacks on a daily basis, we still consider food one of the best parts of each day.

The U.S. has tons of amazing food, from unique and strange donuts to hot dogs and burgers and fine dining establishments. But what food is the most famous and screams "American?" These are the foods that the United States is most known for.

Global comfort food can seem pretty weird but there are a lot of American comfort foods that we remember from childhood. Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are popular and well-known American food. According to Cheat Sheet, the National Peanut Board says that by the time that kids are finished with high school, they will consume 1,500 of these sandwiches. That's definitely a lot. Buzzfeed explains "peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a full-fledged American thing" and says that people who live elsewhere, like in England for example, sometimes say that they don't really get why this combo is so delicious.

Those of us who love peanut butter and jelly often enjoy it on traditional whole-wheat or white bread, a bagel, on crackers, or even in a smoothie. There's also no end to the many PB&J flavored desserts that we can make.

It's fascinating to learn about the history of apple pie. According to The Culture Trip, the very first cookbook that was put out in the United States had two apple pie recipes. We've probably heard people say "American as apple pie" and that phrase was created back in the '40s.

Americans who reside in New England like eating apple pie with a slice of cheddar cheese. So Yummy explains that people living in this area, plus the Midwest, really enjoy this combination, although other people might not think that it's so delicious. Sometimes people bake an apple pie with cheese in the crust.
