Location is everything when it comes to Pokémon Go, and for some, this can be an issue. For players living in rural areas, it might seem like there isn't much to do in Pokémon Go. PokéStops, Gyms and such are found in prominent places, after all, and lone players have no chance of taking down powerful Raid bosses.

However, there's no need to despair. Today, we're going to be taking a look at the game and discussing 10 different things that players in rural areas can do to still enjoy it. You might be surprised! Without any further ado, let's get right into the list.

10 Pokémon: Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee Connectivity

One of the newer features of Pokémon Go allows players to pair with their Nintendo Switch and connect with the Let's Go! series of games. With this connectivity, they can send Pokémon from Go to their consoles, and interact with and catch them all over again on the big screen.

With this, you can enjoy your favorite catches in a whole new way. Pokémon Home will only push this concept further.

9 Evolve Meltan

Meltan is a brand new Pokémon that was added to both Go and the Let's Go! games, and as of now can only be caught in Go, making it quite the rare Pokémon. Along with that, it can also only be evolved into the powerful Melmetal through Go, by earning an astonishing 400 Candies!

Using the mystery box you get by connecting with Let's Go! --though the process of earning a Melmetal still isn't easy-- makes the slow grind of earning so many candies become a little bit easier. This functionality means that players are far less reliant on the wild Pokémon that may be sorely lacking in their area.

8 Research

Professor Willow is always conducting a preposterous amount of research, and you can get involved in it in a variety of ways. The research allows you to gain rewards by completing various different quests.

Many of these are as simple as walking certain distances, and can easily be completed from any rural area. However, sometimes it's nice to get out and take a trip to somewhere new, somewhere you might not know very well.

7 Make A Trip Out Of It

When you take a road trip to just about anywhere, your Pokémon Go finds are almost guaranteed to be new and exciting. If you travel out to somewhere new that might be home to tons of different Pokémon, you'll probably find it'll be worth the trip.

You never know what you're going to find when you do so. New Pokémon, Gyms to take on, Raids to join, villains to stop... the possibilities are really endless. You never know what's around the corner until you go and look, and that truth is no different for Pokémon Go.

6 Battle And Trade

After gaining a high enough friendship level with another trainer, you get the ability to battle with them remotely, which is very handy if you live in a rural area. Along with that, if you live near another player, you can battle (at a much lower level) and trade with them locally.

Battles are a great chance to have some fun and hone your skills, while trading gives you a great opportunity to meet new Pokémon friends (or abandon them without hesitation to get their candy). Both of these options are viable ways to play the game in rural areas.

5 Hatching Eggs

Hatching eggs in Pokémon Go is one of the most exciting ways you can spend your time in the game. The moment that an egg is about to hatch is very exciting, as you never know just what you're going to get.

Anything you hatch gives you lots of candy and a new friend, so every egg is worth your while. Niantic even hold special events, during which region-exclusive Pokémon can hatch from eggs, an opportunity you don't want to miss!

4 Incense And Lures

The use of Incense and Lures allows extra Pokémon to be drawn to a player or PokéStop respectively. Incense only benefits that player, while Lures are a boon to everyone who is in the area.

The use of these two items will greatly aid any rural player who is looking to add a few new Pokémon to their team. Using a Lure while with others will also greatly help the entire group.

3 Explore

Pokémon Go gives you the excuse to do something that many of us neglect: explore. Explore your neighborhood, your town, your city, go everywhere (always taking precautions to keep yourself safe in the process, of course). There's something to do in Pokémon Go in every new location. You just have to be willing to search it out.

If you're in a very rural area, why not drive up to the nearest city and see what Pokémon Go has waiting for you? There are surely at least a few PokéStops and gyms to make the trip worth your while. There's no reason not to venture out a bit.

2 Find A Raid Group

In Pokémon Go, the only way that you're going to be finding Legendary Pokémon is through the Raid system, in which many players gather together at a Gym to take on an incredibly powerful Pokémon. This is something that is a lot harder to do in rural areas.

One of the best ways that you can fix this is to assemble a group of people who are willing to go to Raids when they appear, with Facebook groups and Discord channels being just a few ways to find these like-minded people who are ready to hunt down their next Legendary Pokémon. After all, if you defeat it together, you all get your own chance to catch it!

1 Community Days

Once a month, Niantic hosts a little event that they refer to as Community Days. On these Community Days, one Pokémon is spotlighted, and it gets increased spawn rates and a higher likelihood of appearing as a shiny.

Community Days are a great day to start exploring, as they might up the chances for you to catch an exciting Pokémon even in rural areas. You might even get the chance to nab a shiny version. What could be a better reward? Use the Community Days as a chance to go out, hatch some eggs, earn some Candies, and catch some new Pokémon.
