We've all had moments on a plane that are not always the proudest. For some people, these moments turn into horror stories and, luckily for the rest of the world, many take to Reddit to expose the seedy underbelly of plane travel. Buckle up, because these have us wanting to opt for road trips for the rest of our life.

The Rude Talker

Reddit user amethystine1 had an unfortunate encounter with an older gentleman who did one thing on a flight that no one appreciates: Talked too much. The Reddit user describes their account starting with a couple sitting behind them who took their shoes off to rest their feet on the armrests of the user, which, of course, as nature would have it, began to stink.

At that point in their flight, the older gentleman began to complain about the smell repeatedly to the flight attendant who would relay the message to the couple, to no avail. When the man was done complaining about that, he began berating the Reddit user via casual conversation - about their hometown, bragging about his career, and threatening Reddit user amethystine1 by saying they'd "better not need to use the restroom" at any point during the flight, because moving out of the seat wasn't an option. Talk about rude.

Outracing A Storm To Takeoff

Reddit user Tellenue had an intense experience twice on the same flight and took to a threat to discuss it. The flight began with getting flagged multiple times at TSA for carrying a phone charger, which security considered to be a threat without realizing what it actually was (they were later excused from their shift for identifying things incorrectly), and the second experience happened on the actual flight.

With a storm on the way, the Reddit user spoke of the pilot's intention to outrun the poor weather and get to cruising altitude before it hit. In the process, the pilot didn't even ask for clearance before taking off and the race had begun. The Reddit user claims that the pilot had opened up on full throttle before even making it into the air, causing the entire plane to speed forward at an unusually high velocity. The pilot had shaved so much time off by outrunning the incoming storm that they had shaved a total of 40 minutes off the flight time.

First-Flight Neglect

Reddit user TheBrontosaurus shared an old experience about her first flight alone from Denver to Sydney, Australia. Not only is a flight like that intimidating from the get-go, but this Reddit user had some additional complications aside from flying alone for the first time ever. While the Reddit user had paperwork stating she was allowed to fly solo, at a San Fransisco layover, there was a debate about whether she needed an assisted flight or an in-flight escort (she was 13-years-old at the time).

While the debating went on, she missed her flight and had to be put up in the airport hotel with a flight attendant, which is awkward in itself, before attempting to fly out again in the morning. Not only did she have no change of clothes in a strange city, but she also hadn't eaten. The next morning, she was relegated to the 'unaccompanied minor's room,' which, according to TheBrontosaurus' account, had half a Jenga block set, half a puzzle that was missing pieces, and a total of two episodes of Degrassi on TV. She was there for a full 12 hours and had to wait until 10 PM to board the flight to Sydney before finally eating and having the chance to go home.

Sometimes, Getting A Seat Closest To The Bathroom Is For The Best

One Reddit user, loveweinerdogs, told a story of her boyfriend's embarrassment while flying. After a hefty drinking and eating sesh prior to boarding the plane, the Reddit user fell asleep prior to takeoff. When she woke up, her boyfriend, who was sitting in the middle seat next to her, was gone. Since the 'occupied' lights in the bathroom weren't on, it was a mystery as to where he was and she quickly alerting the flight attendants while trying not to panic too much. Her boyfriend finally makes it back to his seat but, according to the Reddit user, smells horrendous. The smell continues for the duration of the flight and after asking her boyfriend what happened, he tells her that they'll "talk later."

When they finally land, the Reddit user said that her boyfriend had to use the bathroom before the flight took off and, in the process of searching for the bathroom, didn't make it. Unfortunately, when he finally did find the bathroom, the next 30 minutes was spent trying to flush his boxers down the toilet before a flight attendant forced him back to his seat so the plane could take off. Needless to say, the embarrassment was tangible, and not only did his girlfriend need to deal with the smell, but the stranger next to them did as well.
