Plane food has a reputation for smelling revolting, tasting disgusting, and leaving passengers feeling queasy at best. But airlines are constantly improving the quality of the meals they serve and online reviewers are keeping them accountable. Check out these photos that show what the food really looks like on these five popular airlines.

Singapore Airlines Nearly Provides A Full English Breakfast

Singapore Airlines is one of the world’s highest-rated airlines. The company has an impressive safety record, is renowned for its attentive staff, and offers flights to a long list of destinations around the world. Changi Airport is also a great place to spend a long layover between connecting flights, thanks to attractions like its famed butterfly garden.

From this image shared online, we can see that the breakfast on Singapore Airlines comes complete with nearly all the bells and whistles. Full English breakfasts consist of eggs, sausages, tomatoes, beans, and often black or white pudding. This one is missing the pudding (but non-Brits probably won’t mind that so much!). But it has many of the other traditional breakfast inclusions.

The addition of fresh fruit is always welcome on a plane, particularly when you have a long-haul flight overnight and you start to feel dehydrated and lethargic come breakfast time. And, of course, a tangy juice is the cherry on top of any breakfast dish.

Emirates Offers Vegan Alternatives

Good news if you’re flying with Emirates and have dietary requirements! Like an increasing number of airlines around the world, Emirates now offers vegan alternatives to their meals.

Many of the dishes that are served on Emirates, and other airlines run by Middle Eastern companies, have Arabic flavors and influences. We can’t be certain of what this meal is, but it looks to be either vegetable patties or falafel flavored with a tomato-based sauce. There’s also lots of mixed vegetables served on the side and a helping of beans.

This dish comes complete with the signature bread roll that you find on most airline food trays and a few other sides. Fresh fruit is always a plus, as is the combination of nuts, dried fruit, and freshly chopped vegetables. This is definitely one of those airplane meals that you’ll feel good after eating. There’s nothing worse than getting stomach trouble mid-flight!

Chicken And Veggies On British Airways

Meat and three veg is a quintessentially British meal that you’d expect to be served on British Airways. This chicken and veggies dish is slightly less stereotypical than something like roast beef or sausages but it definitely looks tasty nonetheless.

The peas and potatoes make for a nutritious addition to the meal and the chicken looks like it won’t be lacking in flavor or tenderness due to the sauce. There is also a side of curried slaw on the dish, which adds another dimension of flavor. The bread also looks slightly more artisan than the regular kind commonly served in-flight. Well done, British Airways!

The review of the meal left on Fly and Dine praised the dessert, in particular, which was a chocolate mousse flavored with hints of orange. Overall, the passenger was quite happy with the meal served by British Airways.

Qatar Serves Amazing Desserts

Sometimes, a terrible lunch or dinner can be salvaged by a delicious dessert. Especially if you’ve got a sweet tooth, dessert can sometimes be even more important than the savory parts of the meal. And if dessert is super important to you, then it might be a good idea to consider flying with Qatar.

Reviewed by The Points Guy, this meal had one definite highlight: the sticky toffee pudding that was served for dessert. And that wasn’t the only sweet treat on offer. Passengers even get a candy bar along with their dessert to help keep them satisfied. While this meal was served in Economy Class, the First and Business Class desserts are even more impressive, both to look at and to eat.

The main dish served in this meal was chicken and rice. There was a healthy amount of chicken served beneath the rice (even though you can’t tell from the photo). Also served were a side salad and a bread roll—you can never have enough bread rolls!

Creamy Pasta Served On Qantas

There’s nothing like a bit of comfort food to help you survive a long-haul flight. Many people think of pasta as one of life’s ultimate comfort foods, so it’s definitely a good thing that Qantas serves meals like this. Aside from being one of the world’s safest airlines, Qantas is also renowned for serving decent meals.

While the pasta dish might not look that appetizing to those who don’t like creamy sauces or vegetables, the reviews of Qantas food are often favorable. We also appreciate the large Kit-Kat, because there’s no such thing as too much chocolate.
