Summary

  • Some places on Earth, like the Naneghat Reverse Waterfall in India and the Stone of Davasko in Argentina, challenge the fundamental rules of physics and gravity.
  • These places have unique phenomena, such as water falling upwards or objects moving uphill, that defy our understanding of gravity.
  • Visitors to these destinations can witness breathtaking and mind-boggling experiences that make them feel like they are in outer space.

The accepted belief is that when something goes up, it eventually comes down because of the influence of gravity over the earth. This is the single reason humans and objects can remain on earth and not float on air like bubbles. But there’s always an exception, especially for universal things such as gravity. Apparently, it seems that this force does not have control over all parts of the earth. In other words, there are some places around the world where gravity cannot be felt, and while visiting these places, one can stop for a second to feel what it’s like to be in outer space. Here are 16 places on earth where gravity doesn't work at all.

This list has been expanded with two more zero gravity places on earth, such as Reverse Waterfall in India and Stone of Davasko in Argentina, that raise questions about the most fundamental rules of physics and keep scientists puzzled.

The splendors of nature are irresistibly appealing. And one such splendor is Naneghat Reverse Waterfall, which, unlike other waterfalls in India or around the world, displays water falling between two mountains in an upward direction. This magnificent natural wonder is located in a little-known hamlet called Naneghat in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra. The phenomenon of water blowing upward rather than downward perplexes tourists. It is not a gravity-defying phenomenon, but extremely strong winds are what cause the water to rise, creating a breathtakingly incredible image that mesmerizes the senses.

Stone of Davasko, Tendil, Argentina

The Dawasco Stone was an enormous 300-ton boulder that stood on the sheer edge of the rock while balancing on its own fulcrum. It was certainly a fascinating place where gravity doesn't work (as widely believed) before it fell in 1912. It sat atop the hill for thousands of years, defying gravity. The fallen boulder split into several pieces on impact, and a 9-ton plastic replica was fixed to the rock formation around it. Many legends and stories surround the Stone of Davasko, but whatever the story, it was really an incredible miracle.

Hoover Dam draws in approximately a million visitors yearly, many of whom do not just come for the views but also for the gravity-defying behavior of this place. Water does not fall off the edge of this dam. Instead, it flows back up. This unique phenomenon is said to be caused by the colossal structure of the dam itself. According to experts, the updraft of the dam is so strong that it causes the water to move upwards instead of downward.

Beautiful scenery of Mount Aragats, Armenia

At the foot of the highest peak in Armenia lies Gravity Hill, where gravity does not seem to work. The first thing to notice about this hill is that the river flows uphill, but that’s not all. When cars are put on neutral here, they move uphill on their own accord, freaking out spectators. This also goes for other objects with the tendency of rolling and humans are not also left out of this unique phenomenon as walking uphill feels less strenuous than walking downhill. This unique phenomenon has made this location one of the most popular tourist attractions in Armenia.
