Relationships are hard, and the title of this topic alone could well be enough to divide opinion. Some will assume that this is going to be about actually getting over the end of a relationship, and that's the mindset that we're going to go with. Of course, if you want to interpret it as a couple just having an argument and then the boyfriend doing something drastic, that's up to you.

It's never easy to deal with the tough side of relationships, but if we're looking on the positive side of things, it certainly feels like there are a plethora of ways in which a boyfriend (or a girlfriend) could make the process easier. Hell, we're even confident in saying that we could do a second top 25 list and we wouldn't even be stretching too much.

Some of these entries are going to seem a little bit outlandish and others will seem quite tame, but either way, they're all effective methods in one way or another. You don't have to have one particular way of living in order to enjoy all of these, because at our core, we all have the ability to surprise ourselves.

The end of one relationship can often bring in the dawn of something new and exciting, and it doesn't matter how long that takes. You have to discover yourself in the wake of something happening like this that can often be quite scary or frightening, and you need to be able to challenge yourself. Take that next step.

25 The Pub - Nice And Relaxed

Heading to the pub is a really enjoyable social activity to engage in, whether you’re on your own or with your pals. As opposed to the stereotypes that we all hear about the pub we tend to believe that the best thing about it is the really warm atmosphere that you get to enjoy.

You could just be going in for a bite to eat or to catch up with old friends, but it’s that sense of community that really brings things home. It’s not for everyone of course, and the same could be said for any number of activities, but it’s a good way to forget about your better half (or former better half).

24 Las Vegas, United States - Sin City Baby!

Ah, Vegas.

A lot of guys wouldn’t even dream of floating the idea of heading to Vegas to their partner, but if that’s not something you have to worry about, then what could possibly be stopping you?

You’d have to save up the necessary funds, as is the case with any trip of this nature, but it’d be so unbelievably worth it. Even if you only stayed for a few days, it’d be a great distraction from any other problems you may have.

The state of Nevada as a whole is dramatically underrated, but we all know that Vegas is the gem that will draw in millions upon millions of tourists for many years to come.

23 Ibiza, Spain - Let Loose

Do we really need to explain this one? Ibiza is considered to be one of the party capitals of the world and that’s a statement that very few people will disagree with, regardless of whether or not they personally enjoy that kind of party vibe.

Nobody can tell you for sure that you’re going to have a great time way or the other out there, but one thing is for sure, the last thing you’re going to be thinking about when you’re dancing the night (or day) away is what your girlfriend or former girlfriend is up to. If you are, then we feel sorry for you.

22 Atlantic City - The Alternative To Vegas

Atlantic City serves as one of the primary alternatives for Las Vegas, Nevada, and while it may be a little bit more tame, you could argue that it’s equally as fun and entertaining.

You could head down there for a long weekend or perhaps even just one night, but either way, we’d recommend that you keep it nice and short. If you over do it then you could find yourself lusting after your current/ex girlfriend, when in reality, the whole point of you going is to forget about her. Again, try and ignore the seemingly obvious clichés here if you can.

21 Cancun, Mexico - Take A Risk

Do we really need to explain this one all too much?

Mexico is a crazy place. Cancun, in particular, is an even crazier place, and sometimes you need that kind of chaos in the wake of something so emotional like a big falling out or a break up.

Your girlfriend probably wouldn’t have been all too pleased about you jetting off to Cancun, but that isn’t going to be a worry in your mind with this trip, and in many ways, discovering those positives and acting on them can be the best possible thing to do for your own mental state.

20 Amsterdam, Netherlands - Take Another Risk

We’re never going to be the ones to dictate how you should live your life or where you should go, but the fact that we include Amsterdam in the majority of our ‘positive’ travel articles should tell you all that you need to know.

We’re talking about a city that never really felt like it was built for couples, and it’s important to take advantage of that. In some ways the city is in its own little bubble, but every so often you’ll find yourself getting caught up in the excitement of Dutch culture – which is the best kind of culture, and you can trust us on that.

19 Grand Canyon - Get It All Out

The Grand Canyon is one of the more popular tourist destinations located in the United States of America, and some would even argue that’s an understatement. You may think it’s an odd thing to include in the list given that many proposals tend to happen here, but we’re thinking outside of the box.

Sometimes, you just need to scream and shout and let it all out. The Grand Canyon, in our opinion, is the perfect type of therapy if you want to let out all of that bottled up emotion.

Just think of a dog who has been inside all day and finally gets to run around the garden. Bliss.

This one is going to sound a bit vague and we can entirely understand why, but the nature of an Asian adventure can span over many different things. From China and Japan to Thailand and Vietnam, to Singapore and Malaysia, there are just so, so many fascinating places littered throughout the continent that we should all strive to discover.

A lot of students tend to engage in this type of holiday as a gap year so that they can ‘find’ themselves, but it can also be quite effective when trying to get over a girl. You’re often too busy exploring an entirely different way of life and culture.

17 Skiing Holiday - Head To The Slopes

Skiing is something that people do with their families, on their own, with their friends and, ironically enough, when you’re in a couple. However, if you’ve never been before, it could be quite a fun thing to test out when you’re thinking of ways to get over your aforementioned relationship.

As we all know, there’s no one given cure but from the art of heading down the slopes to the festivities afterwards, there’s a really special vibe that comes alongside skiing. You’ll leave as a different individual to when you arrived and while that sounds over the top, it’s true.

16 Greek Islands - Stereotypical But Lovely

Yes, we’re well aware of the fact that the Greek islands are a hotbed for romance and things of that nature, but this piece is all about not judging a book by its cover. If a collection of girls can go on a fun holiday to Greece or the surrounding areas, then why can’t guys?

We enjoy a great cocktail too and we like the art of tanning ourselves for hours on end, contrary to popular belief. It’s a stereotypical option but everyone needs to be alone with their thoughts sometimes, and when you go here the only thought in your mind will be “wow, this is incredible”.

15 Sporting Events - Go Sports!

We don’t care if it’s baseball, football, soccer, tennis or even polo, because going to a sporting event is a fantastic experience – and it’s probably one of the most common things to do for folks attempting to get over relationships.

The passion and enjoyment of getting swept up in the moment, whether it be a touchdown or a goal, is exhilarating. Some would even argue that it’s an addiction for some people, and we wouldn’t question that logic for a second. Honestly, if you’re looking for an effective technique, then this is right up there with the best of them.

14 On A Road Trip - Just Get Away

Just get in your car and drive, man. The mental exhaustion of a break up or a major argument can take its toll in a major way, and you need to find some kind of release from that. If you’ve got a valid driving license and are able to just go out and explore, then why not go ahead and do it?

You could even fly somewhere exotic and then rent a car and drive. Whatever you end up deciding, there are a million and one different possibilities when you’re out on the road, and you could argue that the unpredictability of it all gives you more clarity than anything else possibly could.

13 Boxing Training - Channel The Energy

Boxing is an art and we refuse to hear anyone say any different. It’s not just a case of getting in there and throwing hands, because there’s a process that everyone who straps on a pair of gloves needs to respect in order to find what they’re looking for.

In a scenario such as the one we’ve been discussing you’re likely going to have a lot of anger, tension and frustration built up, and there are few better ways to channel that than with a boxing bag. That sounds cliché, but test it out for yourself and see how you feel afterwards.

12 Hang Out With Friends - Simple Yet Effective

This seems quite broad given that you can do so in most of these entries, but come on, is there anything better than hanging out with a loyal group of friends? It doesn’t matter whether you’ve known them for a week or 10 years, either, because if there’s that connection there, then it’s something that’ll almost certainly last for a lifetime.

It can be tough to go from hanging out with your girlfriend every day to suddenly not seeing her, and at least for a while, you need to find a replacement for that which doesn’t seem manufactured or false.

11 For A Run - Really Soothing

We’re not going to sit here and preach that every single person on the face of the planet needs to go for a run, because that’d be disingenuous. What we are going to say, however, is that running clears your mind, gives you time to think, and allows you to reach certain goals and achievements whilst also giving you some closure.

It’s a magnificent kind of euphoria especially if you exceed any and all expectations that you set for yourself, and even if you don’t, engaging in a bit of exercise never hurt anyone – contrary to popular belief, of course.

10 YouTube - Some Much Needed Therapy

Sometimes the most simple of options are the best, and you’ll notice that theme throughout a lot of our remaining entries. In the modern age, YouTube is one of the biggest forms of entertainment out there, and the best part is that it’s available at the click of a button. No seriously, try it yourself.

If you’re having relationship problems then escaping in a world that’s completely unlike your own can actually be really great, even if you just spend 10 minutes watching someone vlog to a camera. We’re big fans of YouTube, and it feels like the platform is only going to get bigger and better from here.

9 Cornwall, England - Serenity

Ah, Cornwall. Again, this is a pretty popular entry that we’ve used throughout the years and we’re going to do so once more.

This isn’t something that we can really put into words, but we’re going to try. Cornwall may be logistically considered a part of England, but we think it’s a unique entity within itself and we aren’t just saying that for the sake of it.

From the friendly locals to the serenity of being alone with your thoughts, it’s almost like the entire county is a massive rehab facility – especially if you’re seeking clarity after some personal issues. The nearby Devon is great too and the North of England is spectacular, but Cornwall trumps them all.

8 Family Holiday - Be With Those Close To You

Your family tend to know you better than anyone, and as such, they probably know your girlfriend quite well too. Alas, even if they know her like the back of their hand they’re going to be well aware of the fact that you don’t want to be quizzed about what happened or why things fell apart.

That’s why family holidays are so enjoyable, because you get to experience a throwback to your youth in more ways than one. As opposed to worrying about adult life you can spend a few days engaging in activities that will legitimately put a smile on your face, and that’s just nice for everyone.

7 The Gym - Lift Those Weights

From the swimming pool to lifting some weights and everything in between, hitting the gym can be great for a variety of reasons. Perhaps you’ve put on a bit of relationship weight and want to get fit again, or maybe, you just want to shift your focus to something more positive.

We can completely understand that and there are few better places where you can just dive into an activity head first and really commit yourself to it. You could go for a day or you could go for the next five years, but either way we think it’s effective.

6 African Safari - Entirely Unique

If you enjoy your African animals, then there are very few things better for you to experience than a safari. They’re entertaining in all kinds of ways, and it gives you that element of danger that you need in order to feel alive.

Some people would prefer to do this as a couple, but even if that was something you were originally planning to do with your partner, showing that you’re able to still enjoy yourself on a trip without her should be a clear cut sign that you’re moving on. It’s a risky test, but it’s one that you should endure if only for the safari itself.
