Not everyone enjoys the art of driving, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, it does need to be said that most of us complain for absolutely no reason - or, at the very least, for no good reason in comparison to why the folks who drive across these destinations do.

There's a very good chance you'll never drive across these 10 locations, either because it's physically impossible or just because you'll decide it isn't the smartest thing in the world to do.

Still, it's a pretty interesting decision to contemplate, even if you aren't serious about actually going ahead with it.

10 Half Of Alaska

Alaska is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the entirety of the United States, which is funny because there are quite a few Americans that don’t even really consider it to be a part of their nation – as bizarre as that may sound.

However, when you head towards the west and the general changeover between Alaska and Russia, there’s a substantial gap in the road network that stretches across hundreds upon hundreds of miles.

Whether or not that is rectified or built on in the next few years remains to be seen.

9 Stelvio Pass

The Stelvio Pass is officially known as a mountain pass, situated over in Italy with a border alongside Switzerland – which would certainly come in handy if World War III ever gets underway.

It’s one of the highest of its kind in the Alps, but this drive is not just shaped very awkwardly, but it is also 9,000+ feet above sea level. If you aren’t used to conditions such as these, then you could seriously struggle to get from point A to wherever the hell it is you want to be.

8 Atlantic Ocean Road

We take a trip over to Norway for our next entry which, in many ways, kind of feels like a place that would be great for the end of a big ‘showdown’ following a Hollywood blockbuster of some kind.

While it may only be a few kilometers long you certainly shouldn’t let that fool you, and you also shouldn’t allow the scenic beauty of what it is you’re seeing to cloud your judgment.

One error or slip up could leave you face down in the water, so it really does depend on whether or not you’re okay with that reality.

7 Yungas Road

There are places that are often spoken about in hush tones for one reason or another, and this is one of them. In many ways, you could argue this is one of the primary tourist attractions in Bolivia which is equally fascinating and disturbing.

Yungas Road or North Yungas Road may be the official name of this thing, but Death Road is a much more common nickname. It has been pretty popular since the mid-1990s when it became known that a lot of people were losing their lives as a result of the steep drop.

6 Transfăgărășan

We’re heading up to the spirit in the sky for our next entry, which is actually found over in Romania.

Aside from all of the Count Dracula jokes you’ve come to love, Romania is actually a pretty stunning country. This particular road, which is as hard to navigate as it is to pronounce, has received the nickname of 'road to the sky' in the past as a result of the 70-mile incline that it takes to get to around 6,700 feet.

That kind of elevation obviously isn’t normal if you’re not from around the area.

5 Kahekili Highway

If you want to see everything that Hawaii has to offer, then stick to the tourist stuff. If you want something a little bit more challenging, head to Maui’s Kahekili Highway.

It may only be 20 miles long, but boy oh boy do you not want to let that fool you. This kind of steep drop catches so many people off guard, and there aren’t all too many security measures in place to stop you from the imminent danger that awaits.

Claustrophobic is one of the best words we could use here.

4 Antarctica

Antarctica is the kind of destination that the majority of us never expect to reach or travel to, and rightfully so. We tend to believe that it’s a place reserved for researchers, scientists and only the most ‘out there’ of explorers.

If you fall into any of those categories then you could try and go on an expedition over there, but there’s a decent chance that you’ll be about as successful as the guys who tried to drive across the Asteroid in Armageddon.

We joke, but seriously, it’s not a place you want to go to.

3 Darien Gap

The Darien Gap over in Panama & Colombia serves as a huge wild, tropical forest that serves as a pain in the backside for anyone who wants to successfully travel from North to South America via road.

It is around 66 miles long and the idea of building an actual road through it has been floated around before, but it’s not only considered to be very costly (both financially and for the environment) but also incredibly dangerous.

There are some beautiful sights to be seen, but the people that reside around this area aren’t the type you want to be messing with.

2 Russian Far East

As is the case with a decent portion of Alaska, like two long lost sisters, the general road network located towards the far east of Russia isn’t exactly ideal for travelers. From the Road of Bones to places that you legitimately can’t cross with even the most stable of vehicles, this kind of territory isn’t reserved for the weak-minded.

The freezing cold temperatures make this all the more difficult to pass through with a smile on your face, especially if you’re only doing so just for the sake of it.

1 Trollstigen

The first part of this name should give you a fairly decent idea of what you’re going to be in store for here.

We’re heading back to Norway for this absolute monster of a road that jumps up through the inclines at a rate of 10%. The landscape is absolutely stunning but if you get too lost in the moment, then it could oh so easily be the last moment you ever have on this Earth.

That makes us sound a little bit overdramatic and we can appreciate such a thought, but you’ll never know unless you’ve tried it for yourself.
