It should be surprising but it's really not, considering all of the gingerbread 'houses' we've seen come and go over the last year. What started with the charcuterie chalet is now coming to a head with a new spin on an Easter-type of a gingerbread house: chicken 'coops' for Peeps marshmallows.

Everyone has their own relationship with Peeps, either you love to hate them or you love them, period. However, the fact can't be denied that these lovable, squishy little pops of sugar do look pretty darn cute in an Easter basket and, yes, will likely look even cuter in miniature chicken coops that kids can now make specially for them. This isn't just an activity for kids, though, as the idea even has adults giving the sugary sweet treat a second look. When you're done building a leprechaun trap for St. Patrick's Day, you can surely add a Peeps chicken coop to your list of miniature construction projects for the spring holidays - this is what we know about them.

A New Christmas-Themed Easter Tradition?

It appears that the makers of Peeps are catching onto the idea that a holiday is so much better when kids have something to look forward to in terms of both building and eating. It's only natural that when one thinks of a potential gingerbread house for Easter, a chicken coup for Peeps comes to mind. However, this isn't just any type of chicken coop - this is a chicken coop that's made out of cookies. So not only will everyone be riding a serious sugar high from all of that Easter candy, but they now have the chance to build, play with, and dismantle a coop made of cookies, icing, and more candy... And if this isn't a brilliant idea, we're not really sure what is.

Easter traditions are pretty limited compared to other holidays throughout the year and while attending religious services, Easter egg hunts, and brunch or dinner are usually the most traditional, Peeps are looking to change all of that. And we have to admit, these chicken coops are pretty cute, especially with the unique construction design that has been put in place to ensure that Peeps will actually stay locked in their coop. That's right, this design also features a 'link and lock' technology that makes the entire thing far easier to build and way more efficient when it comes to keeping those sweet baby chicks in their own space.

What Comes With The Kit And How It Works

When families are finished painting eggs and finding the ones that are filled with candy, it will officially be time to put together this fun cookie coop. For starters, the entire house is edible so there's nothing to worry about in terms of inedible pieces or any decorative details that need to be thrown out before the cookie walls are bitten into. Each kit actually comes with Peeps already so if parents don't want to buy a large package of these sweet chicks, there's no stress there, either. The walls of the coop are made out of sugar cookie dough which is pre-baked, so all you'll need to do is stack and 'glue.' The panels seem to be a cinch to put together and, of course, no true cookie coop is complete without a wide array of pastel-colored candies to decorate it with. These also come with the house, but it's always fun to add your own so feel free to go crazy with any leftover Easter candy (this is also a great way to use it up!).

More and more people are getting into the craft of building edible art and this Peeps cookie coop is no different. It might be a fun and more whimsical way of doing so but it's really quite a blast to put together, especially the first time you stick those Peeps inside and realize how cute of an idea it actually is. For those who are really keen on getting their hands on these cookie coop kits, rumor has it that they're already appearing at BJs at the time of writing. They're sure to begin popping up in grocery stores and maybe even pharmacies as we draw nearer to Easter, though, so be sure to keep an eye out. And we don't blame you if you end up eating all of those sugar cookie panels before they make it to the coop - sugar cookies are a lot more delicious than stale gingerbread, so you won't hear a *peep* from us. Sorry not sorry!
