A flight from Phoenix to Boston was forced to divert to Kansas International Airport after a passenger refused to stop doing pull-ups.
This has gotta be a new one. A passenger was so focused on his fitness that he started doing pull-ups mid-flight using an open overhead bin and then refused to stop when flight crew asked him to. Now that’s dedication.
Of course, alcohol may have had something to do with it too.
American Airlines Flight 2763 was supposed to be a direct flight between Phoenix and Boston but was forced to make an unexpected landing at Kansas International when the pull-up performing passenger became belligerent and disorderly.
Passengers noted that the unidentified man, who already seemed “off” according to witnesses, was accompanied by a woman and two small dogs. He ordered drinks throughout the flight, and at one point got up and began leaning against the overhead bin. When a passenger asked the snide question, “What are you going to do, some pull-ups?” he started doing exactly that on the edge of the bin.
Flight crew repeatedly asked the passenger to stop as he was blocking the aisle, but he stubbornly refused. That’s when he became verbally abusive towards the crew.
"The flight attendant probably asked him about three or four times to sit down and he refused to sit down and then he really got verbally abusive with her, starting calling her names," said one passenger speaking to WBZ-TV CBS Boston.
About 90 minutes into the flight, crew members took the decision to land in Kansas in order to have the unruly passenger forcefully disembarked. Security arrived soon after landing and escorted the intoxicated pull-up performer off the flight.
As with all incidents of diverted flights, the FBI is investigating, but no charges have so far been laid.
Flight 2763 was then able to continue on its way to Boston where passengers got in about an hour-and-a-half late. All thanks to one overly aggressive gym rat who just couldn’t hold his liquor. Or his overwhelming desire to stay fit.
