Passenger Fined For Taking Accidental Ride On Baggage Carousel

An eager passenger trying to reach her dog carrier on the baggage carousal was fined after slipping and going for an accidental ride.

After arriving at a destination after a long flight, the final task of waiting for your luggage to arrive on the baggage carousel can sometimes seem daunting. And for one woman who arrived at the Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow, Russia, it turned out to be an unexpected ride with unexpected consequences.

The passenger was reaching for her pet carrier with a dog inside and suddenly lost her balance, and fell onto the conveyor belt. According to Channel News Asia, the woman, who is in her late 50s, stayed on the belt until it reached the baggage room. While it appears she had no intention of taking a trip to the Moscow Airport baggage room, the passenger was still given a fine of 1,500 rubles ($24 USD) for damaging the airport’s freight transportation system. The local authorities have not yet released any information on whether the passenger or her pet were injured in any way.

Surprisingly, this is not the first time a passenger has ended up on an airport baggage carousel. In December 2017, a British Airways passenger became increasingly frustrated after arriving in Aberdeen, Scotland, and waiting for his luggage for over an hour. He decided to take matters into his own hands, and attempted to get through to the baggage room by riding the baggage conveyor. While it is unclear whether fines were levied in this case, the police eventually arrived on the scene in order to manage the situation and according to an Evening Express report, all passengers, including the passenger who attempted to retrieve his luggage by riding the carousel, were told to return to the airport the next day to retrieve their belongings.

In another incident, a man bypassed security and made his way onto a baggage carousel and eventually onto the tarmac at the Miami International Airport. No so surprisingly, the man was eventually arrested by the authorities.

While baggage claim may be an extra tiresome step after an already long journey, these stories prove that whether acting intentionally or unintentionally, it is best to maintain patience and utmost care while waiting for and retrieving luggage from the conveyor.
