When traveling domestically or internationally, for business or pleasure, travelers want to have the best and most relaxed travel possible. Having a well organized color-coded travel itinerary and neatly-folded packed suitcases is much better than running around at the last minute, trying to plan accommodation to the airport and exchanging currencies. However, one thing passengers often take for granted is the ability to have an airport that is well-functioning, modern and up to date, and can cure boredom caused by long layovers and early arrivals.

Arriving at a cramped and chaotic airport, like Charles-de-Gaulle in Paris, is anything but inviting and will make passengers feel anxious, stressed, and maybe even irritated. Thankfully, Newark Liberty International Airport noticed they needed some TLC and upgrade areas they were lacking. These renovations will add smart technology, modernized food courts, and improvements to the AirTrain service. Impressively, this renovation project has added thousands of new jobs, both during construction and once completed, which will hopefully help with customer satisfaction.

Cutting-Edge Digital Technology Is Coming To Terminal One

Terminal A was originally designed to handle a total of nine million passengers each year. Though this may sound like an impressive number, Newark Liberty International Airport’s new Terminal 1 will be able to welcome eighteen million business travelers and families annually. This significantly increased capacity is caused by the large number of passengers that are flying through Newark rather than the bigger airports like JFK and Laguardia.

In hopes of abolishing the airport’s terrible reputation, which gained them the recognition as one of the worst airports in the United States and in the top twenty worst airports in the world, the renovations to Terminal 1 are welcomed and thankfully underway.

Terminal 1 will now welcome a brand new parking complex that can hold up to three thousand cars and will be connected from the garage to the AirTrain. Additionally, Terminal 1 will also get a revamped and expandable security checkpoint which will help ease the long and disorganized lines they are currently faced with. This new security screening checkpoint will have a large area for passengers to queue and have a dedicated line for cabin crew members, priority passengers, and travelers with physical challenges. Once passengers successfully cross security, various airline lounges will be immediately accessible.

Terminal One Is Also Getting Superior Dining And Retail

The best thing to do when you’re waiting for your flight is to scope out the various restaurants and bars that airports have to offer. And while Newark was already filled with fast food options in smaller food courts, the newest expansions for Terminal 1 will be complete with superior dining options.

With something for everyone’s taste buds, Terminal 1 is known predominantly for having the best sit-down options and drinking spots. Newark is now equipped with Phillips Seafood, which also offers breakfast. Additionally, Earl of Sandwich for mouth-watering roast beef sandwiches, a Ben & Jerry’s counter, Currito Cantina, Cheeburger Cheeburger, just to name a few.

Formerly Terminal B, Terminal Two Will Have A Revamp AirTrain

Newark Liberty International Airport’s AirTrain currently offers transportation to twelve million passengers annually. However, the current AirTrain is twenty-three years old and is known for its frequent breakdowns and long maintenance work. According to New York’s Port Authority concluded that it would cost well over $400 million in order to keep it running for another decade. Luckily, that’s when they decided it was time for the AirTrain to get a facelift. The AirTrain project is estimated to cost the city $2.05 billion but will be refunded by revenue from all airlines that travel through Newark, as well as rental car and parking fees.

The commonly-used AirTrain offers passengers access between each terminal, as well as direct access to hotel shuttles, parking garages, and car rental companies. The monorail carries passengers throughout the airport twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, and is completely free of charge.

This New Airport Will Create 23,000 More Jobs And Cost $2.7 Billion

Between the expansion of Terminal 1, the number of gates for all aircraft, the abundance of retail shops and restaurants, and most importantly the increased security screening checkpoints, it’s no wonder that there will be a plethora of jobs created. According to the Port Authority, Terminal 1 is expected to create an additional twenty-three thousand jobs. By creating these additional jobs, Newark Liberty International Airport will also be dishing out $1.9 billion in wages and creating $4.6 billion in economic activity for New York.

Amazon Is Coming To Terminal C With A Cashier-less Snack Shack

Amazon is making a huge impact when it comes to shopping, both online and in person. Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal C will now be introducing Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” retail shop. This snack shack and minor retail store will be completely cashier-less and will allow passengers who are rushing to make their flight or those who are looking to settle in at their designated gates, the ability to grab-and-go any last-minute snack and travel essential. The best part of the “Just Walk Out” shop will allow travelers the ability to skip waiting in busy lines or interacting with cashiers.

The way this new system will work is simple, efficient, and fast which is essential when you’re trying to make your flight. Customers simply enter the store using the downloaded “Amazon Go” app and can browse the various products that are available at their selected airport. The store is partially-automated and will charge customers on their private or business Amazon accounts.

The future is now.
