10 New Theme Parks Opening Across The World Soon

There are hundreds of theme parks across the world, and the list keeps growing. With entertainment companies and movie studios continually looking to expand their reach, amusement parks are springing up everywhere.

While you’ll have to wait a few years for some on this list to open, others will be welcoming guests as soon as next month. Please keep your hands, arms, and legs inside the ride vehicle. Here are ten theme parks that will be operating soon.

10 10. Legoland New York

The Big Apple is getting its first ever Legoland — well, almost.

The giant theme park is actually being built 60 miles northwest of New York City in Goshen, New York. It will be the biggest Legoland yet with over 50 rides, shows, and attractions. It will also get its own 250-room hotel.

The new resort is set to open in early 2020, and Legoland is already selling 1st to Play Passes, which allow visitors to access a pre-opening event as well as the park year-round for only $94.99.

9 9. Universal Studios Beijing

Universal is adding not just one – but three theme parks to its lineup. While new details on Universal Studios Moscow and Universal Studios South Korea haven’t been leaked in a while, it does appear Universal Beijing Resort is getting close to the finish line.

The new vacation destination is set to feature one completed theme park and a CityWalk that allows guests to access it. Later phases will see a second theme park and a water park added to the resort.

The Beijing attraction is set to open in Spring of 2021.

8 8. Six Flags Zhejiang

If you love those fast-paced thrillers, you’ll be glad to know that Six Flags is opening up two new parks. While Six Flags in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia isn’t set to open its doors until 2022, Six Flags Zhejiang in China is on track to start operation in 2020. The park’s coasters will be themed around characters from franchises including Looney Tunes, Friends, and Garfield.

Six Flags will additionally open its first water park in China in July 2020.

7 7. Lionsgate Entertainment World

While this might not be the traditional outdoor theme park you’re used to, it certainly has just as much wow-factor and intense theming. This indoor verticle theme park located in Hengqin, Zhuhai, China brings all the excitement of popular Lionsgate films to real life. The location will feature a Now You See Me live magic show, a Twilight virtual reality motorcycle ride, multiple Hunger Games Capitol-themed experiences, a La La Land concert, and much more.

While more details are yet to be announced, the park is expected to open this July.

6 6. Nickelodeon Universe

This wacky indoor amusement park is getting a second location at American Dream Meadowlands in East Rutherford, New Jersey. It's set to fill 8 acres of space and feature attractions based on franchises including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and SpongeBob Square Pants.

American Dream is a 5 billion dollar retail and entertainment destination set to open later this summer. This means the newest Nickelodeon Universe is also set to arrive at this time.

5 5. SeaWorld Abu Dhabi

SeaWorld is planning an aquatic theme park in Abu Dhabi, which is the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The destination is set to open in 2022 and will be the first SeaWorld park to operate outside of the United States and the first without killer whales or orcas.

Prior to the park’s grand opening, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi will be launching a research, rescue, rehabilitation, and return center. More info is yet to splash into the spotlight.

4 4. Studio Ghibli

The Japanese anime film studio, Studio Ghibli, is opening a theme park based on its popular animated movies right after the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Located in Japan, the theme park will honor the works of Hayao Miyazaki and likely include attractions based on popular films including My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away.

Studio Ghibli currently operates a museum near Tokyo, but the theme park will help elevate the studio’s artistic films to a whole new level.

3 3. Sesame Place

Although the details of this project are still tightly under wraps, SeaWorld Entertainment is planning to build a second Sesame Place somewhere in the United States in 2021. While a few rumors suggest that the Sesame Street theme park will be built in Orlando or Williamsburg, nothing has been confirmed at this time. Despite this, a new Sesame Street Land did debut at SeaWorld Orlando in Spring.

As of now, the only operating Sesame Place is located in Langhorne, Pennsylvania.

2 2. 20^th Century Fox World

Yes, we’re not entirely sure if or when or how this one will open, but it’s nearly complete, so it deserves a mention.

20^th Century Fox World in Malaysia was a movie-based theme park that would feature 25 thrill rides based on films including Night at the Museum, Titanic, Rio, Planet of the Apes, Life of Pi, and more. Unfortunately for those who couldn’t wait to experience attractions based on their favorite films, Fox Entertainment pulled out of their park participation in 2018 while undergoing its merger with Disney. This led to a couple of lawsuits and the ultimate fate of the theme park still hanging in the air. Whether or not the attractions will be re-themed is yet to be determined.

1 1. London Resort

This exciting theme-park-centered resort is claiming the last spot on the list because most likely – it will open last.

London Resort was first announced in 2012 as London Paramount Entertainment Resort. Originally based around Paramount Pictures, the complex would feature Europe’s largest indoor water park, hotels, theaters, and attractions. But in June 2017, news broke that Paramount pulled out.

Despite this, the resort is still set to become a reality, although construction isn’t estimated to being until 2021, and the grand opening is currently pushed to 2024. If we get those rumored Doctor Who and Sherlock attractions, though, the wait might be worth it.
