Summary

  • Munchkin flavors are fairly limited, with only a few standout options like Glazed and Glazed Blueberry.
  • Dunkin' recently introduced the Ice Spice Munchkin drink, blending pumpkin Munchkins with iced coffee.
  • The popular Glazed Munchkin is a miniature version of the original glazed donut and is a fan favorite.

Munchkins make the world go 'round. Are we right, or are we right? It's a universal act of kindness to offer someone a munchkin with their coffee, and it's also fairly universal that to decline the offering is an insult - both to our sweet tooth, donut-craving selves, and to the munchkin owner. It's incredible how comforting these small donut holes can be to someone having a bad day or just needing a sweet treat. Considering Dunkin Donuts first *technically* opened in 1948, there's been plenty of time to sort out flavors and recipes.

Don't get us wrong - Dunkin' has some incredible donut flavors (and seasonal flavors, which we've also ranked... you're welcome). And while Starbucks also has incredible coffee flavors, they're missing one thing: Those deliciously satisfying donut holes.

America (And The World) Runs On Dunkin

This article has been updated with new Dunkin Donuts information, including the introduction of the Ice Spice Munchkin drink. Although a pumpkin spice latte of sorts, this marks a new age of mixing Munchkins AND iced coffee at America's favorite bakery.

This munchkin serves no one but itself with its cinnamon (and sugar?)-covered exterior and traditional donut on the interior. While the cinnamon is easy to take and isn't overwhelming, it's still not the best flavor out there and doesn't do much in terms of making anyone crave a donut hole. If nothing else, it's good padding, so the other munchkins aren't squashed in the takeout box.

Powdered

It's a law that this munchkin can't be eaten without a cup of coffee ready to go right next to it. Powdered cookies - yes. Powdered munchkins? Nope. The fact is that while the powdered sugar is well-intentioned on these munchkins, they're just too small (and too dry) to support such a desert-like exterior. Someone is defending these powdered balls somewhere out there, but all they do is spread powdered sugar to other, better munchkins.

Old Fashioned

Old Fashioned munchkins are, well, old-fashioned. That's not to say they're not good; thankfully, they have no unnecessary powdery exterior. However, that's where the verdict stands... They're just okay. They're good but not overwhelmingly good, and they're satisfying but not in an 'mhm, I need another one' type of way. They're just old-fashioned donut holes; while they're good, they're not great.

Pumpkin

There is a time and a place for pumpkin-flavored everything, and it's only during one time of the year. This seasonal munchkin is a welcome addition to any variety pack but is not something many people reach for immediately. Rather, it's an option. It's the perfect counterpart to a PSL, a great follow-up to a Chai latte, but after the pumpkin season, it loses its place in the definitive ranking system.

Glazed Chocolate

Is it a disappointment to see Glazed Chocolate so low on the list? The answer is probably 'yes,' but bear in mind that there are only so many chocolate donut lovers out there. There's a reason why regular glazed donuts (not donut holes) do so well over chocolate donuts, and that's because those who love these chocolatey delights are not nearly as many as though who side with traditional flavors. These dense munchkins are wonderful. There's no debating that.

Glazed Blueberry

Blueberry donuts are still a highly-regarded flavor at Dunkin', and it's easy to see why. This berry gets a sugary twist when it's added to a donut and glazed over, and our hearts are totally open to it. When they created Glazed Blueberry munchkins, forget about it - we were anxiously waiting in line and hoping to get our hands on them before they were sold out for the day. They're still a lovely find in mixed packs.

Remember when we said that Old-Fashioned was just 'okay?' Well, the glaze gave this munchkin what it needed to properly rise through the ranks. The new and improved glazed old-fashioned munchkin is no longer boring and somewhat dry; it now has a sweet edge with just the right amount of texture, density, and comforting flavor of a traditional donut.

Jelly

For some reason, the jelly munchkins are always in short supply. It's not uncommon to have them missing from various packs, leaving many wondering how popular jelly munchkins are. They're somewhat of an enigma, with a large following but one that's not as big as many would like to think. Jelly munchkins are great, but it's the jelly donuts people want- filling them isn't nearly as satisfying.

Butternut

Butternut munchkins are donut holes that taste similar to old-fashioned ones but are covered with crunchy dots, and those crunchy dots are the butternut. There's something so magical about these munchkins. We can't figure out if it's the slightly sweet, butterscotch-like flavor or the crunch and moist interior one notices after biting into one that makes them so delicious.

Glazed

It should be no surprise that the most popular munchkin is the Glazed. This donut hole is flawless in every way but mostly in the sense that it is, in true essence, a miniature form of its larger counterpart, the original glazed donut. There's no competition here... It's not Dunkin' that runs the world. It's glazed munchkins.

How Often Does Dunkin Introduce New Munchkins To The Mix?

Although you'd think Dunkin would introduce a new Munchkin flavor each month, season, or even a couple of times each year, the brand's selection stays pretty stagnant. Because Dunkin offers so many donut and Munchkin flavors, new recipes are not dropping as often as the drinks. However, this year, Dunkin Donuts introduced the world to the "Ice Spice MUNCHKINS® Drink," essentially putting pumpkin Munchkins into a blender with iced coffee and turning it into one sweet drink.

This is one of the company's celebrity collaborations, as Ice Spice (a US rapper) calls her fans Munchkins. It's very fitting, but it still isn't a new Munchkin flavor. It's a drink featuring pumpkin spice Munchkins. Oddly enough, this also marks the FIRST time Dunkin has done something like this.

With a menu ever-changing, new drinks, donuts, and food should be on the way as we enter 2024. However, for Munchkins, we might see Dunkin stick to what it knows and not make much or any changes to it for the foreseeable future. Who knows?!

  • Not many Munchkin changes: Dunkin Donuts doesn't often change its Munchkin selection.
