London is an expensive city but it's always going to be a favorite place for many travelers. We want to walk through the beautiful city streets, see the amazing architecture, and plan the perfect afternoon tea. And when we're spending time over there, we also want to know what the locals eat when they get hungry in the afternoon or when they want a treat.

Every country has its own popular snacks and we're curious to find out what people love the most in Britain. Read on to find out the most popular snacks in England.

Scotch Eggs Are Beloved

We want to eat at popular London restaurants but we also don't mind chilling at a pub for a few hours during our trip to England. And one snack food that we will find at many pubs is scotch eggs, a snack food that people in England love.

According to Taste Atlas, the ingredients in this snack include breadcrumbs, sausage, and hard-boiled eggs. Sausage meat is wrapped around hard-boiled eggs, and then there's a coating of breadcrumbs around the eggs. The Guardian has some helpful tips for making this British snack at home: boil eggs for five minutes so they don't crack, and add a tiny amount of milk to the breadcrumbs before coating the eggs.

We Definitely Want Some Walkers Crisps

Walkers Crisps are a popular snack food in England. According to I Heart Britain, there are some super interesting flavors: smoky bacon, beef and onion, and prawn cocktail are just a few. The official website names even more types of chips: Nando's Peri-Peri Chicken, Roast Chicken, Pickled Onion, and Worchester Sauce.

Potato chips are beloved in many countries, including the United States, and it's cool to learn about the unique flavors on offer in England. We wouldn't expect to be able to find beef and onion flavored chips on supermarket shelves, that's for sure. We'll keep an eye out for these flavors on our next trip to England.

Jammie Dodgers Sound Delightful

According to I Heart Britain, Jammie Dodgers are another popular snack in England. First of all, this is a truly sweet name. And second of all, they sound delicious. Radio Times explains that this is a cookie with two shortbread layers and strawberry jam in between them.

Burton Biscuit Company in Wales created these cookies in the '60s. The company still sells these cookies and there are hearts in the middle, which is adorable. The name comes from a character in the comic book The Beano named Roder the Dodger from the 1950s. He didn't want to do his homework so he would "dodge it." We would definitely be happy to do our homework if we could eat some Jammie Dodgers.

Sausage Rolls Are A Big Deal

Sausage rolls are another popular snack. Tinas Traditional explains that back in the 1800s, people living in London would buy them off the street, so they have a long history. In the 1650s, people living in France started using puff pastry when baking, after it was created in Spain in the 1600s. Puff pastry is used in sausage rolls in England now, but back in the day, shortcrust pastry was the more popular ingredient. Some people make sausage rolls with fruit inside them, but pastry and pork are the main ingredients. The pork usually has nutmeg, sage, and parsley.

These are the most popular snack foods in England, and we'd love to try them all. Should we start with the Jammie Dodgers? We'll take 20...
