Most people have a love-it or leave-it relationship with Instagram. When a place goes viral, it can either be great for business or horrifically overwhelming for locals. Whatever your view may be, certain places and dishes are just simply too beautiful not to share, and these New York City desserts easily make that list. Here are 10 of the most Instagrammable desserts to be found, photographed, and joyfully consumed in The Big Apple.

Cronut, milk & cookie shot, and hot chocolate from NYC's Dominique Ansel.

Only those who live under a rock haven't heard of the Cronut, one of New York's most famous desserts. For the rest of us, the Cronut at Dominique Ansel Bakery in Manhattan has likely flooded our Instagram feeds at one point in time. There's a reason this buttery, flakey, and photo-worthy pastry has gained such notoriety; it's absolutely stunning, and better yet, it's one delectable delicacy. The Cronut is a marriage between a "donut" and a "croissant," and curious consumers wait in lines for upward of hours to get their hands on one before the shop sells out. Not only is the Cronut worth trying, but other notable, and equally Instagrammable mentions, are the "Blossoming Flower" hot chocolate, with a marshmallow flower topped with white chocolate crunchy pearls, and the milk and cookie shot, a cookie in the shape of a shot glass, lined with dark chocolate and filled with house-made vanilla milk.

The many desserts of Serendipity 3

What screams sugar, bright colors, happy vibes, and over-the-top decadence? Why, any of the desserts at Serendipity 3, of course! The New York ice cream sundaes here are a spectacle: they're colorful, they're show-stopping, and they will cause heads to turn as a server brings one to your table because they simply demand attention in both their grandiose size and bright aesthetic. This long-standing New York institution is known to have attracted celebrities over time, so much so that Selena Gomez currently has a sundae here which looks like Mickey Mouse covered in pink sprinkles. Know that no matter what you choose to order, whether their signature Frrrozen Hot Chocolate (made with 14 types of cocoa in their house-made cocoa powder) to their $1000 sundae, which comes with gold flakes and caviar, your dessert is going to be equally as Instagrammable as it is delicious.

8 “Suprême” Croissants From Lafayette Grand Café & Bakery

One might wonder how a dessert or a dish goes viral. Is it all a marketing scheme? Is it calculated and planned by a well-paid PR firm? Perhaps that's the case for some spots, but for the Suprême Croissants at Lafayette Grand Café & Bakery in Manhattan, it was simply fate. Someone who was not an influencer posted a video on TikTok of these flakey, circular croissants, and the video completely blew up, now boasting over 2 million views. The power of social media remains strong; there are now regularly hour-long lines outside of this Soho hotspot. Created by Pastry Chef Scott Cioe and Boulanger James Belisle, the circular shape of the croissant provides more opportunities to indulge in that crispier exterior that we all love about the regular croissant.

The flavor that will always be around is the pain au chocolat, a deeply rich and thick chocolate filling inside the perfectly buttery crispy pastry. The pistachio suprême has recently been brought back to the regular flavors list thanks to popular demand. Each month, the bakery rotates a seasonal specialty flavor, with past worthy mentions being Rose Berry Spritz, Peaches N’ Crème, Corn Berry Crunch, and Bourbon Maple Nut. New flavors are dropped on the first of each month, so keep a lookout for those announcements.

If you're wondering how to plan your visit without spending several hours in line, don't try to get crafty by sitting down at a table for their full-dining service; the Suprêmes are only available at the bakery take-out window. However, know that they "drop" a freshly baked batch three times daily: 8 am, 12 pm, and 4 pm, and lines start to form about one hour prior to the drop. Many things in life aren't worth the wait, but the Suprême croissants from Lafayette Grand Café & Bakery are one exquisite exception.

7 Cookies From Chip City

If oversized, ooey, gooey cookies that are as mouthwatering as they are photo-worthy sound appealing, look no further than Chip City Cookies. Flavors change weekly, with some of the most popular options being S'mores, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Peanut Buttery & Jelly, Lemon Berry, and Blueberry Cheesecake. Some of the more radical flavors include Ice Cream Sundae, Pumpkin Spice Latte, Cannoli, and even an Everything Cookie, coated in everything seasoning and filled with a sweet cream cheese filling. Flavors aside, their classic chocolate chip cookie is one of the best in the city, and it's just as Instagrammable as its funkier counterparts.

6 Unicorn Pastry From Bibble & Sip

The pastry chefs at Bibble & Sip have a traditional French training background but are often inspired by Asian flavors. Their ability to make the cutest, tiny pastries to near French perfection makes one think there should really be more French-Asian fusion-style bakeries in the city. Yet, at the same time, why add more when Bibble & Sip has nearly perfected the craft? Almost every pastry and treat is Instagrammable at this Midtown eatery, but one of the cutest has got to be the Unicorn pastry. What Instagram feed couldn't use a few more unicorns?

5 Pebble Cup From Pebble Bar

Pebble Cup Adorned With a PB From Pebble Bar

For a high-end dessert that is layered so perfectly it looks fake, try the Pebble Cup from Pebble Bar. Topped with a cocoa powder imprint of PB (short for "Pebble Bar"), this dessert is so stunning it is hard to take a spoon to break in. However, once you do, you won't be able to stop because it's a thick layer of chocolate mousse paired with the crunch of the hazelnut praline that makes for an addictive bite. Everything at Pebble Bar is over-the-top, from their cocktails to their seafood towers, and their dessert simply lives up to that expectation.

Pastry chef Montana D'Alessio Barbieri, better known as "Donut Diva," had an idea about 10 years ago to create a marriage of two of her favorite sweet treats: rainbow cookies and crumb cake. She and her husband experimented in their basement kitchen using nothing other than an Easy-Bake Oven, and what was eventually born out of their experimentation was the magical treat of the Rainbow Cookie Crumb Cake. Barbieri now works directly with Comfortland, one of Queens' best eateries for over-the-top extravagant food, the Rainbow Cookie Crumb Cake being no exception. Think of the flavors of an Italian rainbow cookie with a generous slather of apricot and raspberry jams between the layers and the texture of a crumb cake, and you've got the Rainbow Cookie Crumb Cake. Thank you to Montana and her husband for creating this masterpiece, and thank you to Comfortland for serving it daily. Definitely don't miss out on this colorful confection.

3 Donut Ice Cream Sandwich From Holey Cream

When that sweet tooth kicks in, it can be hard to decide how to cure it; brownies? Cookies? Cupcakes? Ice Cream? Donuts? Well, thanks to places like Holey Cream, with three locations around NYC, the marriage of ice cream and donuts can give sweet sensationalists the best of both worlds. Holey Cream is known for its donut ice cream sandwiches, and not just any typical ice cream sandwich, but with heaping scoops of homemade ice cream sandwiched between thick hot fresh hand-dipped donuts. Donut flavors range from s'mores, gummie bear delight, and the ever-popular fruit loop donut. Sure, you could opt for vanilla ice cream, but why would you when there are options like Long Island Raspberry Rhapsody, Java Guatemala, Pistachio, and Moose Tracks? If you were hoping for brownies, cookies, or cupcakes, you're still in luck at Holey Cream; they serve a little bit of everything.

2 Fish Ice Cream Cone From Taiyaki

Taiyaki is a popular fish-shaped snack found throughout the country of Japan, but luckily for hungry humans on the hunt for one of these delicacies, Taiyaki NYC is here for the cure. Taiyaki translates to "fried fish," and "tai" is translated to the specific species of sea bream. Tai is a symbol of good luck in Japan, and therefore, tai-shaped pastries were often given as a gift to guests at wedding parties. Now, tai-shaped pastries can be purchased right at Taiyaki in NYC, and better yet, they act as a vessel to hold a stacked scoop of ice cream flavors, with classic Japanese flavors such as matcha, red bean, or hojicha. They even serve a unicorn Taiyaki to please both your taste buds and your Instagram feed.

1 Ice Cream Cone From Soft Swerve

Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry are all classic ice cream flavors, and while there's certainly nothing wrong with any of them, sometimes it's nice to venture a little outside the norm. That's where New York institutions like Soft Swerve come into play. Soft Swerve serves a variety of Asian flavors from ube purple yam, yakult yogurt, and matcha, and for those who don't feel like going off the beaten path, they serve well-versed vanilla. The excitement of Soft Swerve certainly does not stop at the flavors, but the toppings range from colorful cereal marshmallows, crunchy coconut, cotton candy crunch, chocolate or rainbow sprinkles, and the effervescent pink-hued freeze-dried raspberries. Oh, you think it stopped at toppings and flavors? Think again! Ice cream can be served in a cake cone, which comes in a wide variety of colors, or a waffle cone.
