The Parks In Moab

The Parks located in Moab, Utah constitute most part of the adventure that can be experienced here. Camping inside these parks gives campers the opportunity to see the sights first hand and get to experience everything it offers without having to drive down to the park several minutes away.

Where To Stay In Canyonlands National Park

In order to get the most out of their visit to the Canyonlands National parks, visitors can camp within any of the major campgrounds located in the Park which includes – Island in the sky campground and Needles campground.

Island In The Sky Campground: This campground does not offer lodging or RV hookups/dump stations but includes amenities such as – Bathrooms, vault/flush toilets, public phones(outside the camp), fire rings, and picnic tables.

Sky campground (also referred to as Willow Flat campground), features up to 12 campsites where travelers who have tents and RVs can set up their shelters.

  • Campers can stay here for up to 7 days at $15 a night.

Campers who wish to stay for several nights should bring plenty of drinking water, food, cameras, watches, and other important things they might need such as – Cooler filled with ice, beverages, and cans filled with water, flashlights, cooking utensils, and more essentials.

In Island in the Sky Campground, visitors will:

  • Enjoy the Green River Overlook which is less than three minutes away.
  • Have a firsthand view of all the Canyonlands National Park has to offer.
  • Partake in interesting outdoor sports such as - mountain biking, hiking.

Needles Campground: The Needles campground located in Canyonlands National Park features up to 26 campsites where campers can set up their tents or bring in their RVs. This campground does not offer electricity or dump station hookups but offers – flush/vault toilets, bathrooms, and picnic tables.

Campers may need to come with basic outdoor essentials such as drinking water, hiking materials, Coolers filled with ice and water (in summer), food/snacks, and more drinking water.

In Needles campground, campers will:

  • Enjoy challenging hikes, backpacking, biking, and four-wheel driving.
  • Experience first-hand and early experiences of spectacular views starting from sunrise.
  • Enjoy a peaceful and quiet atmosphere due to the remoteness of the campground.
  • Partake in challenging hikes across places including the cave spring trail and the Pothole point trail.

Where To Stay For A Good Exploration Of The Arches National Park

Campers can stay in the Devils Garden campground which is the only campground located in the Arches National Park. It features 51 campsites where campers can set up their tent and park their RVs.

Visitors who camp in the Devils Garden Campground can:

  • See amazing sunrise and sunset views from the most strategic places.
  • Engage in hikes and see incredible rock formations in places such as - Park Avenue, Turret arch, the north and south windows, Petrified dunes, Double Arch, and a tone of other arch-like rock formations.
  • Engage in four-wheel driving.
  • Enjoy a ride through the Arches scenic drive.

The Devils Garden Campground does not include a dump station, electricity hookup, or a reliable water reservation; therefore, visitors who stay here and need these amenities have to visit some nearby gas stations such as Maverick gas station for these hookups.

  • The Devils Garden Campground costs $15 for a night and visitors can stay up to 7 nights.

Note: Visitors to the Devils Garden Campground should also make sure to bring important outdoor essentials such as - drinking water and food as the campground cannot be relied on to provide these.

Where To Stay For A Good Exploration Of The Dead Horse Point State Park

Dead horse point state park is a much smaller park that features 2 campgrounds; Kayenta campground and Wingate campground. It is very close to Canyonlands National Park, giving campers the flexibility to easily migrate and explore more terrains.

Kayenta Campground: The Kayenta Campground is a secluded and quiet campground with 21 campsites. Amenities offered here include – electricity hookup, Picnic tables, modern bathrooms/toilets, fire rings, and RV hookups. Firewood and pets are also allowed in the Kayenta campground; although pets must be on a leash.

Visitors who camp here will:

  • Enjoy easy access to the nearby Arches National Park and Bryce National Park.
  • See dream-like views from the dead horse point, the Meander overlook, and the potash ponds.
  • Explore challenging hiking trails such as – east and west rim trails, dead horse point overlook, and engage in mountain biking.

Visitors to the Kayenta should make sure to bring in plenty of drinking water, food, and other essentials to stay comfortable as long as possible.

  • The cost of campsites starts from $35 for a night.

Wingate Campground: The Wingate features 31 campsites and 20 are equipped with electricity hookups. It is also very close to the Canyonlands National Park and Arches National Park. Amenities offered here include – Picnic tables/shelters, flush toilets, a fire pit, and a dump station nearby. Campers are also allowed to purchase and use firewood.

In Wingate Campground, visitors will enjoy;

  • Easy access to other parks in the area.

A Note On Hotels

In Moab town, there are hotels available for lodging. Visitors who want the premium option that would include - a comfortable bed, food, a shower, swimming pools, electricity, and other amenities can go for this option. Although, this option comes at a cost as Moab town is approximately 35 minutes (30.2 miles) away from Canyonlands National Park, 9 minutes (5.2 miles) away from Arches National Park, and 42 minutes (33.2 miles) away from Dead Horse State Park.
