With so many amazing places to dine in Hollywood and Los Angeles, it can be really difficult to narrow down your choices. New York City and Los Angeles are some of the biggest, fanciest, and most culturally diverse cities in America, and it shows in the cuisine.
But one of the big reasons to visit LA is to take in the glamor of the movie-making business and do a little celeb spotting. We've compiled a list of some of the best restaurants in the area for spotting celebrities. They have their favorite places to eat just like us normal folks do!
10 Catch LA
Catch LA is the perfect place to go if you want a fine dining experience involving expertly cooked seafood and a chance to spot your fair share of celebrities in Los Angeles. The Catch restaurants began in New York but, due to its popularity, have branched out to have numerous locations around the country.
One of the most popular spots is obviously in Los Angeles. Because of how many celebs flock here, the restaurant is guarded by a bouncer on weekend nights and it's often crawling with paparazzi. Some of the big names who have attended Catch LA are Cindy Crawford, Jeff Probst, Larry David, Kylie Jenner, Chris Brown, and more.
9 APL Restaurant
If you're in the mood for a perfectly-cooked steak, then look no further than APL Restaurant in Los Angeles. Accomplished chef, Adam Perry Lang, finally opened his restaurant, or steakhouse, in Hollywood a little over a year ago. If the name sounds familiar, it may be because you've heard about it on Jimmy Kimmel's show.
Kimmel is a long-time fan of Lang's cooking and previously allowed him to host BBQ pop-ups in his studio lot. The restaurant is known for its perfectly aged cuts of meat. Kimmel is a frequent attendee, and if you know Kimmel, you know how many celeb friends he has. It's completely normal to catch someone famous dining inside.
8 Beauty & Essex
Beauty & Essex is a luxury lounge situated inside a TAO Group compound in Hollywood. This elegant lounge has hosted numerous celebrity birthday parties, including notorious female rapper Cardi B, who celebrated here last year. In addition to Cardi, other notable celebrities like Selena Gomez and Kim Kardashian are known to frequent Beauty & Essex.
Its decadent and vintage decor make it a charming place to eat at, but don't come here unless you have a full appetite since it is extremely pricey. They offer a raw bar with salmon and watermelon ceviche, and people love their shareable Caesar toast specials.
7 Magic Castle
Opened in 1963, the Magic Castle might be one of the most eccentric places to dine on this list. It's actually not just a restaurant, but an exclusive private club for magicians! Even though magicians aren't typically synonymous with fame and fortune, you'd be surprised how lucrative the business can be.
This is a place steeped in old Hollywood glamor and celebrity events. Neil Patrick Harris used to be the club president! You have to be a member to go here on the regular, but if you're lucky enough to get in the doors, then it's almost certain you're going to have a celebrity encounter.
6 Gracias Madre
This is a fantastic place to dine if you're a fan of authentic Mexican cuisine and particularly if you're a vegetarian or a vegan. Run by executive chef Chandra Gilbert, Gracias Madre hosts a large whos-who of celebrity favorites. Ellen Degeneres, Olivia Munn, Sophia Bush, Natalie Portman, and more are among some of the biggest names known to frequent this chic little hot spot.
Part of its charm is in its dedication to authenticity and organically grown food. This isn't the type of place where you have to worry about preservatives and poorly cooked food. Everything hand-made and grown fresh for usage in its kitchens.
5 The Nice Guy
If you haven't yet had your fill the Kardashians, then you should check out The Nice Guy in Hollywood. It's an upscale lounge restaurant known for phenomenal burgers and homemade donuts! If you watch Keeping Up With the Kardashians on the regular, then you probably already know how often they visit The Nice Guy. The food is sublime and the atmosphere is relaxed, yet refined.
In addition to the Kardashians, other celebrities who eat here often are Chrissy Teigen, the Hadids, Zac Efron, Rihanna, all the former members of One Direction, Drake, Miley Cyrus, and more. Odds are if you're a celeb in LA, you've visited The Nice Guy at least once.
4 Chateau Marmont
The Hotel Chateau Marmont is the stuff of Hollywood legend. If you've paid any attention to celebrity gossip over the last decade or more, then odds are you've heard the name pop up more than once. The stories from this place are legendary. Whether it be from the crazy parties, the secret celebrity hook-ups, or even the darker stories, it's impossible not to appreciate the rich history of the Chateau Marmont.
If you decide to dine here, which isn't an easy task given how exclusive it is, then you'll be able to say you visited the place where James Dean once jumped out a window and Lindsay Lohan ran up a steep charge in her hotel room, as she lived here for a while.
Located on Melrose Avenue, Craig's is a pretty standard restaurant that serves typical American cuisine like meatloaf and steak. It's an odd choice for a celebrity hotspot, especially because critics don't even like the place that much, but it is often crawling with big names. Many celebrities like to go to Craig's for stage paparazzi shots. And it's not all D-listers either. Even George Clooney himself likes to frequent Craig's.
And, as expected, the Kardashians and Jenners hang out here all the time. But where don't they hang out? It seems like they're everywhere at this point. Aside from reality stars and Clooney, other celebrities that dine-in at Craig's include Iggy Azalea, Jordana Brewster, Joe Jonas, and Kate Upton.
2 The Polo Lounge
The Polo Lounge is a must-see if you're visiting Los Angels for the first time. The Lounge was recently renovated, but it remains nestled inside the Beverly Hills Hotel. The Polo Lounge is home to classic Hollywood stars with people like Charlie Chaplin once dining at the intimate establishment.
It pays homage to its star-studded past with images and art reminiscent of a bygone era of Hollywood movie glamour. Even Fred Astaire himself used to come to the Polo Lounge for drinks at the bar or to meet up for a quick bite to eat. It's definitely worth a visit to see if any modern-day celebs show up to appreciate their roots.
1 Casa Vega
In Sherman Oaks, you can visit the popular Casa Vega, another Mexican restaurant known for its delicious food, its massive portions, and its even more massive margaritas. Celebs like margaritas just like everyone else! One of the reasons celebrities enjoy coming to Casa Vega so much is because it has a dark atmosphere, making it feel more private and cozy. Plus the entrances and exits are made to be discrete.
Celebs can call ahead and request certain protocols to ensure they're able to go into the restaurant without being disturbed by fans or paparazzi that might be waiting nearby. Because the restaurant is kept dim, you might not even realize a celeb is in your midst!
