The biggest reward for volunteers is seeing how a charitable cause has a positive impact on the community it's geared to support. And for most who chip in, that's usually where the payback ends. With that in mind, JetBlue wants to up the incentive for more good work out there by offering 50 folks and their buddies a free, all-expenses-paid, three-day trip to a mystery destination in need of some help.
The incentive is part of the airline's #CheckInForGood public awareness initiative carried over from 2017. Unlike the previous year, when JetBlue presented some location options, they're keeping this one under wraps until the departure date.
The motive for the alteration has much to do with the idea that good volunteers are needed and appreciated anywhere, although the spot, dubbed Destination Good, is likely a place that's on a JetBlue route. The actual work required among the volunteers on the flight isn't exactly known, although much of it has to do with youth, education, community, and the environment. That certainly opens up many options from helping out in a school to picking up trash on a beach.
There are a few caveats, of course. Anyone living outside the New York area will have to foot the bill for heading to the city, as the flight originates from John F. Kennedy International Airport on Nov. 27th, returning Nov. 30th. But if that obstacle doesn't deter you, feel free to submit an application on JetBlue's page. Interested parties in New York and Los Angeles can also apply at any JetBlue popups in those municipalities.
Once you've proven to JetBlue that you're not a robot, be prepared to answer insightful multiple-choice questions such as how large of a karma bank would be needed to store your volunteer hours or how your soul could be motivated to soar if flights were powered by good vibes. Once you get past the abstract, what-if scenarios, also be prepared to type in a short essay on your take on the positive attributes of volunteering.
Deadline for applications is Oct. 26th. Entrants must be 18 years or older with a valid passport in order to qualify.
