10 An Awesome Playlist

No road trip would be complete without a totally awesome playlist pumping through the speakers. Fill a playlist up with all your favorite songs and make sure that they're upbeat to keep your mood up while you're driving. Singing along to your favorite songs while you're driving is always a good idea, especially if you're on a road trip.

Depending on the app you use to make your playlist, you can probably download the songs to play offline. Then, you can turn off your data in order to save your battery and you won't have to deal with the music disappearing when your service cuts out.

9 A Cooler Filled With Snacks

Getting hungry is never fun. And if you're in a car in the middle of nowhere with no snacks in the car and no restaurants or gas stations in the area? Yeah, no thanks.

Before you go on a road trip, it's a good idea to pack a cooler p with some ice packs and put in some of your favorite snacks. If you have snacks that don't need to be kept on the chilly side, toss some of them into a reusable grocery back and tuck them into the backseat too. That way, if you get hungry while you're on the road and the nearest stop is miles away, you won't have to worry about your hunger clouding your brain. Having snacks right there in the car will make any road trip so much better.

8 A Paper Map

We know, this sounds totally crazy. Who needs a paper map when you have an app right there on your phone to tell you where you are all the time? We can't deny that GPS apps are wonderful, but let's be honest, they're not always that reliable.

Phones don't always have service and these apps can be a huge drain on the battery. Plus, there have been times when they've shown to be inaccurate in some locations. This is definitely not something that you want to rely on and a good way to add some unnecessary stress into your road trip. Be sure to pack a paper map just in case.

7 A Trash Can

As much as cleaning can be a total bore, it's hard to deny that have a fresh, clean area can be really nice. This isn't only the case when you're at home! Being in the car on a road trip can accumulate a lot of garbage. From empty cups and bags to candy wrappers and receipts, there's a lot to throw away on a road trip.

Luckily, there are garbage cans that are designed to go into your car. They can be lined with a shopping bag from the grocery store and collect everything that you need to throw away during your road trip. Having all the trash taken care of means you can relax and enjoy the ride.

6 A Water Bottle And Coffee Mug

Whether you're driving or just riding, it's important to stay hydrated and awake during your road trip. Bringing along some water or some coffee to keep you awake is definitely the key. But buying bottle after bottle of water can get expensive and those Styrofoam cups of gas station coffee get cold so fast.

Instead of relying on them to quench your thirst or keep your energy up, bring a reusable water bottle and travel mug with you on the road. It's so nice to have cold water, hot coffee, or any other drink of your choice right there in the car without having to buy it and throw away all those single-use packages.

5 A Phone Charger

Our phones are so important to our lives these days. Even though there may be times that we try to cut down on our screen time and use our phones less, it's hard! Especially on road trips. It's hard not to use them to listen to music, look up directions, or take photos to remember the trip by.

Doing all of that can really run down your battery. Luckily, there are pretty affordable phone chargers available on the market. From ones that plug into your car's power socket to ones that charge up separately, it's not hard to find one. Bring one with you on your next road trip to ensure your phone keeps going as long as you do!

4 A Book (Or Audiobook)

As much fun as reading can be, we don't always have a lot of time to get a lot of reading done. There are so many books out there and as much as we'd love to check all of them out, it's just not always possible. But if you're on a road trip, you're going to have a lot of time on your hands. That trip might get a little dull.

So, what better time to pick up a new book and get lost in another world? If you're the passenger, bring a book along with you. If you're the driver, sync an audiobook onto your phone. Many libraries even let you rent audiobooks, so you can get one for free if you have a library card.

3 Baby Wipes

Yes, it's a good idea to bring these even if you don't have a baby. Baby wipes are really gentle and moisturizing, meaning that they're gentle on your skin. There's nothing worse than being trapped in a car for a long time when you've made a little mess or get sticky hands from your food.

With a package of baby wipes tucked away somewhere out of the way, you won't have to worry about being all sticky and getting everything gross from your fingertips. You can just pull out a baby wipe and get your hands nice and clean again.

2 A Travel Pillow

A pillow of any kind is always an excellent idea for going on a road trip, but travel pillows are specially designed in a way that makes them absolutely fantastic for taking on a long trip. Whether it's in the air or on the ground, taking a travel pillow can make any trip feel like you're riding in first class.

Sitting in the car for a long period of time can be tough because of the fact that you'll be sitting in one position the entire time. Although getting up and stretching is great, it's also good to stay comfortable when you're on the road. Taking a travel pillow that curves right around your neck and supports your head is your best bet.

1 Blankets

Even if you're going to be going on your road trip to a warm place or you think that the heater in your car will be perfectly sufficient, definitely consider packing a blanket with you. The blanket will help you to feel super cozy in the car if it gets cold, but that's not the only benefit it has.

Once you get to your destination, you'll probably also be happy to have the blanket with you in your hotel room or Airbnb. Not only are blankets warm but they really make anywhere feel more like home! Bringing one along will really help make your road trip feel like a first class ride.
