It appears to be a big year for those who are still romanticizing the 90s decade with 90s kids - who are now all adults - jumping for joy over every 90s-themed food announcement. Recently, the collaboration between Dunkaroos and Yoplait's signature kid yogurt, Go-GURT, generated plenty of excitement prior to the product hitting shelves in the near future. Now, 90s gen has a new product to get excited about and although it's nothing new, it's something that served as a fleeting food moment for everyone: Viennetta ice cream.

While it was, and still is, a huge staple in the UK, this ice cream simply didn't have what it took way back when to gain as popular a following as it did during the 90s. However, circumstances have changed and when the world is in pain and healing, there's only one thing to do... Bring back all the quintessential comfort foods from the 90s, because everything deserves a second chance, especially when it's ice cream covered in a variety of delicious toppings.

Viennetta's First Reputation For Excellence

Although it quickly became a 90s memory, Viennetta ice cream actually got its start when Wall's created it back in the 80s, 1982, specifically. The brand was specific to the UK and while it was an instant hit, it took some time to get people on board in the US. Breyer's was the brand responsible for bringing Viennetta ice cream to the US and attempted to get ice cream fans just as excited for this treat. Unfortunately, it wasn't nearly as big of a hit and thus was pulled from shelves before the 90s decade was over. This fancy ice cream was described as having creamy ice cream that contains layers of crunchy chocolate, creating the perfect balance of vanilla and chocolate flavors that should have been a staple in the US just as much as it was in the UK, given that these are two of America's most beloved ice cream flavors.

Interestingly enough, Viennetta was popular all over the world including countries such as New Zealand, Australia, and other parts of Europe. While Breyer's discontinued the delicious ice cream, it now appears that it's coming back - hopefully, for good - to give the US a second chance at embracing not one, but the original flavor of this unique ice cream. The difference is that the ice cream is now coming back under the Good Humor brand, and it's thanks to those fans who did love the ice cream that the brand is happy to stock the shelves once again with this fantastic cake-like ice cream loaf. According to Unilever, the brand has given the ice cream a reputation for making any event that much more special, as the ice cream is already a hearty Christmas tradition in the UK. Additionally, it's being advertised as an all-around fantastic cake for any type of occasion whether it's a birthday, holiday, or any other celebration. Additionally, Unilever has acknowledged the requests from fans over the last 30 years, happily announcing the re-introduction of this sweet treat.

Viennetta Back In The US

While fans in the US can only expect to have Viennetta back in the original vanilla flavor with pops of chocolate throughout, there's no saying that other flavors can't appear on the shelves following a jump in popularity. If the ice cream goes well upon the initial re-rollout, who's to say that we can't see the rest? In other parts of the world, Viennetta ice cream comes in mint flavor and comes in an even larger size, referred to as XXL. The ice cream in the US will come in the standard size which still includes multiple servings of this slice-and-eat ice cream, and is rolling out at a great price: At less than six bucks, fans will be paying only $5.49 for this ice cream. It's a little more than the average pint of ice cream but for the nostalgia alone, Viennetta is more than worth it.

With this ice cream, it's the hope of many a 90s kid that more companies will continue producing products that the decade gave rise to but that still remains to be seen. While nostalgia seems to be the first trending theme of 2021, many are hopeful that this will continue to be an upward trend. If nothing else, Viennetta will likely be the talk of the ice cream world for some time and when it hits shelves, expect it to be all over social media and, if nothing else, consider this your chance to eat through your 90s nostalgia once again in frozen, sweet form.
