November is just around the corner which means that all the foodies are slowly ramping up their Pinterest accounts and scouring social media for the best recipes, decor, and holiday cheer. Before we head into Christmas tree season, though, there's another holiday that comes first - and we're not talking about Thanksgiving. The holiday we're talking about is one that is still relatively new on the scene and is celebrated by friends far and wide. While it might look just a little bit different this year, it's still one that's highly anticipated by best friend groups who look forward to a potluck, sitting around one table, and generally just enjoying one another's company.

From decor to the food, Friendsgiving has such a different feel from a regular Thanksgiving celebration. And this year, it will probably mean that much more to have a few good pals gathered around a table full of fantastic food... And that's why this is the inspiration everyone needs to create a great Friendsgiving setting.

Rustic, Simple, And Understated

Not every gathering needs to be expensive, fancy, and full of price tags. Sometimes, the simpler the layout and decor, the better. Rustic wood platters are the perfect substitution for extravagant silver and china and the best part? No one needs to worry about accidentally breaking something. Tapered candles do add a subtle hint of elegance while muted tones of brown, bronze, and neutrals echo the holiday season while emphasizing the time between Halloween and Christmas... No red, green, white, gold, or silver here! Even bringing a little bit of the outdoors inside can help, such as perfectly-round pine cones, vines, and miniature gourds. Many of these can be found at the dollar store or craft stores as well, making this decor as much of an affordable option as it is a flattering option.

When it comes to the food, this is the chance everyone has to be creative. Potlucks are always fun, but when it comes to the host bringing out something special, why not switch it up a bit? A Thanksgiving sandwich platter is a brilliant way to share the love without the mad dash for sides and carving a giant (often cumbersome) turkey. It's just as impressive and allows diners one of two options - they can create their own delicious sandwiches, or eat everything separately, using the sandwich roll like a regular dinner roll. This is the perfect way to provide individual servings as well, without making it feel as though diners are confined to one plate or helping. Plus - it's pretty!

Individual Servings Add A Personal Touch

We admit it - it is time-consuming to make individual pies, cakes, and whatever other desserts can be made in one-person serving sizes. However, this is still a really great way to be personal without trying too hard. In reality, all it takes is swapping out a large pie tin for a bunch of mini pie tins and cutting the pie dough into individual, smaller sizes rather than focusing on one pie. This will also cut down on the time it takes to slice and serve a pie, and will ensure that everyone has their choice as well as enough to go around. It's also super cute, very welcoming, and saves on the leftover cleanup... especially when you send half of them home with your friends.

Individual servings for sides can also be incredibly helpful - especially with a small group. It prevents the need for tons of serving utensils and makes everyone feel as though they've got a special place at the table. Not to mention, no sharing.

Consider The Great Outdoors

There's nothing wrong with bringing the party outside, especially if it's earlier in the month. Space heaters are always an option (as are cozy clothes and blankets!) and this is also a great way to safely spend time with several people. Seating can be spaced out and tables can be lengthened, and with a simple table runner, some leaves, and colorful napkins, this is sure to be a hit.

Setting up shop outside can be as simple as arranging things picnic-style as well. No chairs needed, no table needed, and it's super casual and fun.

There's no need to have access to a giant warehouse or barn-style setting for a setup like this. All that's needed is enough space for some tables and space to spread out for games, such as these super cool, giant tic-tac-toe boards. Be a little creative and let the games commence!
