Capri is one of those stunning destinations that most people decide to visit during the summer. The small island is divided into two parts: Capri and Anacapri, and travelers should stay at least three days to see everything, but it's possible to see the main highlights on the island in 24 hours.

Cars are forbidden for non-residents on the island between March and November, so visitors must figure out how to get around the island. Luckily, Capri has only 3.9 miles and enough options for those who want to explore the island on foot or use public transportation.

On Foot

There is something special about exploring Capri on foot, as it has many historical sites. Luckily, dozens of paths connect the prominent spots at Capri, making it easy to walk through the island, especially going down the hills. For example, the four-mile Via Dei Fortini trail connects the Faro lighthouse to the Blue Grotto, and travelers can enjoy many historical landmarks along the way. Travelers can also climb the 921 Phoenician steps, which was the only way that people had to get fresh water from the Truglio spring centuries ago.

Buses Are The Cheapest Way

Catching a bus is arguably the most practical way to get around Capri, as they stop at almost every important spot on the island. Due to the narrow streets, only minibusses are allowed in Capri, and they can take up to 10 passengers. So, it's common to see overcrowded buses during summer, and travelers can expect long lines.

There are several bus routes, and they take between 10 and 20 minutes. It's also the cheapest way to explore the island, but they might charge extra for pets and large luggage. It's also possible to find an updated schedule of the buses online.

Funiculars Are The Fastest Way

A funicular connects Marina Grande, on the coast area, with the Piazza Umberto, at the center. It's the fastest way to travel between the two locations, as the journey takes up to 15 minutes, going up cliffs and the views make the trip more memorable. The tickets at Marina Grande can be purchased in an office at the pier, near the ferry ticket offices. They might charge extra for people carrying pets or oversized luggage and pets.

The funicular is not open year-round and closes between January and March for maintenance. During those months, travelers must travel by bus, taxi, or walk between Marina Grande and Piazza Umberto.

Taxis Help To Skip The Queues

During summer, the lines at the bus station and funicular can be too long and so is the waiting. Travelers in a hurry can catch a taxi, but it's also the most expensive way to travel. But the drivers are often friendly and happy to share details about Capri's history and daily life.

Travelers can find taxis at the port or by phone, carrying up to six people. There are fixed prices for each travel — For example, from Capri to Marina Grande they charge €17, whole from Marina Grande to Faro the price is €38.

Renting A Scooter

Cars might be forbidden, but scooters are the traditional way to drive inside the island. It's possible to rent them in one of the many shops at the port and along the island, and it's a great way to skip the crowds on public transportation and be more flexible with time. It's possible to book it for a few hours or days.

Driving inside Capri is not challenging, but drivers must pay attention to its curves, cliffs, and narrow roads. Yet, they don't need to worry about getting lost, as they're only a few roads on the island.

Ferry Boats

It's impossible to be at Capri and don't explore its sea. Their most famous spots are Faraglioni sea stacks, White Grotto, and Green Grotto, just a few minutes away from Capri. It's possible to book tours or rend a private boat at the port, allowing travelers to personalize their book tours.

Travelers can choose a range of boat tours, including traditional wooden boats or fancier options. On personalized tours, they can decide where to sop to swim or snorkel, and agencies might include food and Prosecco.

Chairlift

Monte Solaro has arguably the best view of Capri, where travelers can see the islands, the Amalfi Coast, the Bay of Naples, and part of the Calabriás mountains. The good news is that there's no struggle to climb its 589 meters. Thanks to a chairlift, the journey takes less than 15 minutes. Visitors can take a bus that stops near the Piazza Vittoria, where they'll find the entrance for the chairlift.

The ride is free for children younger than 12 years old. Travelers can also climb the stairs to the Monte Solaro's summit, which takes approximately one hour. They should also be aware that the chairlift opens at different times.
