The Largest Bas-Relief Artwork In The World

Visitors should understand that Stone Mountain has been made as a monument to the Confederacy.

Stone Mountain Park is famous for its massive rock relief on its north face - it is the largest bas-relief artwork in the world. It has been cut 42 feet deep in the mountain, measuring 90 feet high and 190 wide. It sits 400 feet above the ground.

The rock relief depicts the Confederate leaders Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson. Such a Confederate monument may stir mixed emotions for many visitors. It was completed in 1972. The Confederates are depicted on their favorite horses - Blackjack, Traveller, and Little Sorrel.
