The central attraction of Las Vegas is the Las Vegas Strip - or just "The Strip". The Strip is around 4.2 miles or 6.8 kilometers long and has many of the world's largest hotel, casino, and resort properties in the world and the world's most famous gambling destination.

Besides taking a stroll of the Strip, one of the best ways to see it is by the air via a scenic helicopter flight (these are often paired packages with trips to the Grand Canyon). The Strip can be overwhelming for first timers delivering a sensory overload, but a leisurely stroll can help one take it all in.

What To Know About The Las Vegas Strip

One trivia of the Las Vegas Strip is that it is strictly speaking not even in Las Vegas city limits - but rather just outside of Vegas in the unincorporated towns of Paradise and Winchester. That being said, for purposes of visiting everything is just called "Las Vegas". It is a stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard South in Nevada's populous Clark County.

  • Length: 4.2 miles or 6.8 km
  • Location: Paradise and Winchester - Just Out of Las Vegas City Limits

The Strip is world-famous for its casinos and contemporary architecture. The lights and attractions on the Strip draw tourists from around the world. Gambling, adult shows, and various other adult only attractions and activities on the Strip give Vegas the reputation of the world's Sin City. One can expect plenty of solicitors on the streets for everything from family friendly to adult-only activities.

The Strip continues to evolve and develop with the all new Resorts World just recently opening its doors to its massive luxury casino-hotel complex. Resorts World even has the most expensive hotel room in the United States.

How Long It Takes To Walk The Las Vegas Strip

The best way to see the Strip is on foot (besides parking is a luxury in this stretch). So how long does it take to walk the length of the Strip? Taken at its greater length, it can be said that the Strip is come 8 miles long. If one considers just the Strip proper at 4.2 miles (the stretch between Mandalay Bay to the Stratosphere) it would take around 1.5 hours. That is reckoning on an average walking rate of 0.3 miles per hour and not stopping along the way.

  • Time to Walk The Strip: 90 Minutes

Walking along the Strip one can expect to see a lot of cars (around 37,000 are typically in the area) and a lot of Pedestrians (up to around 41,000 in the peak hour times).

The good news is that the sidewalks are all pedestrian friendly and so it is easily to take a stroll along the Strip. In fact, walking along The Strip is a great way to see it up close. There are also plenty of pedestrian overpasses, so there's no need to jaywalk.

Walking the length of the strip is a great evening activity - but take one's time to stop and see the sights along the way. Call into various Casinos and shops and stop to see the Fountains of Bellagio. These dancing fountains are a free attraction along the Strip and part of the Bellagio resort.

  • Tip: Wear Comfy Tennis Shoes and Not High Heels
  • Best time To Walk The Strip: After Sundown

While one can explore the Strip at anytime of the day, the best time is after dark as all the neon lights turn on and the heat of day has passed. If one does walk it in the heat of the day, wear a hat and take plenty of water.
