Australia has free-roaming kangaroos, Peru boasts historic Incan ruins, France embraces its fine wine, and Mexico makes delectable tacos. In that same stereotypical yet accurate vein, whether they're proud of it or not (we know for a fact that Texas is, at least), America has laughably-oversized portions.

Whether its a donut the size of your head, a record-holding deliverable pizza, or an entire kitchen sink full of ice cream, the USA sports meals almost as big as the nation itself. While these plates vary in cuisine, style, and location, they all have one thing in common; after eating them, you'll either need to loosen up your belt or arrange a rapid transit to the nearest emergency room.

10 Papa Bob's Ultimate Destroyer

At Papa Bob’s Bar-B-Que in Kansas City, nothing is done by halves. While you could opt for a regular cheeseburger and fries, it’d be remiss of any macho foodie to skip the aptly named Ultimate Destroyer.

According to the restaurant's website,

Spread out on the first layer of the 12” hoagie bun is a half pound of mouth-watering pulled pork. Atop that, a half pound of hickory smoked sliced pork. Above a generous squirt of Papa Bob’s regular sauce, [they] add two slices of bread.

Believe it or not, that’s only the beginning, with heavy hickory ham, smoked turkey, a truckload of beef, half a pound of fries, four pickles, and four jalapenos topping it all off. We can already picture ourselves first in line at the ER.

9 The Big Texan's 72oz steak challenge

It’s man vs meat in a battle that seldom sees the former walk away victorious. At The Big Texan Steak Ranch And Brewery in Amarillo, Texas, those brave enough are given a full hour to attempt to devour the monolithic 72-pound steak in one of the nation’s most famous food challenges. As stated on their website in the official rules, “Once you have started you are not allowed to stand up, leave your table, or have anyone else TOUCH the meal.”

Friends and family can cheer you on as you mouth down forkful after forkful of juicy steak, but if the gigantic slab of meat gets the better of you, then the challenge is officially failed and you need to fork out the $72.

8 San Francisco Creamery's Kitchen Sink Challenge

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream, right? Of course! Except when the ice cream in question is meant to be eaten by six to eight people, costs almost $60, and comes served literally in a kitchen sink. In that case, we may become a little apprehensive with our ice cream screams.

At the famous San Francisco Creamery, those daring enough to tackle this brain freeze-inducing concoction will come face to face with three sliced bananas, up to eight scoops of ice cream, eight toppings, more whipped cream that we can imagine, a truckload of almonds, and, of course, some cherries on top.

For the dessert fiends who can chow this down in record-breaking time, not only will the $58 dish be completely free, but the Creamery will give out “free ice cream for a year (limited to one single sundae per day)”.

7 Big Mama's and Papa's 54-inch pizza

The mouthwatering and artery-clogging meal seen before you holds the official title of the world's largest deliverable pizza. At 54 inches wide and 54 inches long, the Giant Sicilian is “cut into 200 square slices and can feed 50 to 70 people” (Business Insider).

The base pizza, which consists of the classic sauce and cheese combo, will set the hungry humans brave enough to tackle it back $299,99. Any additional topping will require handing over another $20 from the piggy bank.

Anyone game enough to tackle this beast of cheese, dough, and sauce should have their doctor on speed dial.

6 Clinton Station Diner's Mt. Olympus burger

The staff at New Jersey’s Clinton Station Diner doesn’t think that any quartet of people could finish their burger. In fact, they’re so confident of their Mt. Olympus burger derailing any would-be challengers that they offer $1,000 of pure, cold, hard cash to any group of four who can finish the gargantuan sandwich in under three hours.

Weighing in at 50 pounds of juicy meat, plus enough bread to open up a bakery, it’s an almost impossible task. The incentive of earning a free meal and a fat wad of cash might seem appealing, but it doesn’t justify the expensive ride to the ER, in our humble opinion.

5 Clinton Station Diner's 8th Wonder

That’s right - if you thought we were gonna pop in and out of the Clinton Station Diner in true Road Runner fashion, you thought wrong. Once you’ve recovered from the quadruple heart bypass inflicted by the Mt. Olympus burger, and if you can’t resist but notch up another man-vs-burger victory, then say hello to the '8th Wonder'.

The Diner promises that “if you and 9 friends can finish the '8th Wonder' in 1 hour we'll give you $2,000!” That doesn’t sound too hard, right? Oh, we might have forgotten to mention that it weighs in at a mind-boggling 105 pounds. Management is required to be present during any attempt, and for good reason.

4 Round Rock Donuts' 2-pounder

They say that everything is bigger in Texas, and we’re not finding anything to prove otherwise. If you’ve got a spare $7.98 at Round Rock Donuts in Round Rock, Texas, you can grab a dozen or your favorite regular-sized donuts. Or, for the adventurous and daring, you can choose $7.98 worth of enormous, single donut.

While this isn’t the biggest food we’ve seen throughout our culinary journey through the USA thus far, and there’s no official prize for finishing it, you will walk away with your fair share of pride, indigestion, and a stretched belt.

3 Kenny & Ziggy's Zellagabetsky

Over at Kenny and Ziggy's New York Delicatessen, which ironically is located 1600 or so miles away from The Big Apple over in Houston, Texas, there’s a hefty sandwich that is waiting to cripple anyone who dares try to polish it off.

Known as the Zellagabetsky, this enormous concoction of calories contains thick cuts of pastrami, turkey, roast beef, and corned beef, plus salami, swiss cheese, a slice of rye between each layer, and a truckload of dressing. This sandwich is yet another point of proof that everything really is bigger in Texas. It’s probably worth buying a larger belt before visiting because a bloated belly is all but inevitable.

2 Deli Sushi & Desserts' 7-pounder

With new all-you-can-eat sushi joints popping up all over the world daily, it’s safe to say that we’ve all indulged in a little too much sushi and one point or another in our food-obsessed existences, right?

Well, nothing quite says ‘too much sushi’ like this bloating, gut-busting, artery-clogging 7-pound monster roll. This impressive and intimidating dish can be found at Deli Sushi & Desserts in San Diego, California. Only the brave (read: dumb) would attempt to finish this solo, with the mammoth plate meant to serve at least a family of four. That being said, people have attempted it both successfully and unsuccessfully.

1 Beth's Cafe's 12-egg omelet

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so we need to make sure that we're getting the appropriate nutrients and calories that we need to function in the hustle and bustle of our busy daily lives. The 12-egg omelet at Seattle's Beth's Cafe might be overkill, however.

Served alongside a hefty portion of hash browns and toast, polishing off this breakfast meal is going to do us more harm than good. The Rock might eat a dozen eggs every morning, but that doesn't mean that we should. A medium-sized bowl of fresh fruit and yogurt sounds a little more reasonable.
