Disney World and Disneyland have locations all over the world. You might decide not to go to one of the American locations but you could visit one of their spots in Tokyo or Hong Kong. But instead of going to Disney, why not consider visiting somewhere more lively and with a far greater variety of activities?

Disney may offer rides and attractions, but there's only so many times you can ride a roller coaster before it starts to become repetitive. Here are some of the other destinations that might be better suited to your family destination vacation if you're determined to go to Europe.

10 10. Italy

Italy is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and it's home to famous cities like Rome and Venice. Bringing your family here would surely earn you many points in your favor due to how culturally rich the place is in history, art, fashion, and cuisine. Plus, there are gelato stands on nearly every corner, and you can never go wrong with gelato.

Visit world-famous monuments like the Colosseum, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and that's merely scratching the surface. Venice alone is worth a few days to spend walking the streets and perusing the shops or taking a gondola ride through the canals.

Everyone should pay a visit to London at some point in their lives. It's especially crucial if you have kids in your family who are big lovers of all things Harry Potter. The Warner Brothers Studio Tour in London is a must-see and you can even visit the 9 3/4 platform at King's Cross Station!

But beyond that, London is a cultural mecca filled with museums such as the Natural History Museum to enrich the mind. Go to the London Eye and see the sights, immerse yourself in the local shops. See Big Ben, visit the Buckingham Palace, and the Convent Garden, London can be pricey but there are guides out there are on how to navigate the city on a budget.

8 8. Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve is a beautiful place in Portugal known for its white sand beaches, mountains, and crystal blue waters. It's a great place to go dolphin watching and bask in the sun. There are more cosmopolitan areas around too, complete with bustling nightlife for when the kids are down for the count.

Families can find group activities to participate in as well as things just for the parents. It's not too expensive to stary in an Algarve Inn either depending on where you stay. There are countless bike and walking trails to take in the local wildlife and fauna. Plus Algarve has a few Michelin-starred restaurants if you want to treat yourself.

7 7. Paris, France

Just because it's known as the city of love doesn't mean Paris isn't a great destination for families too. Actually, Paris is a hot-spot for family vacations. Parents want to show their kids the wonders of the world, including the Eiffel Tower. Plus you can experience excellent French food like fresh baguettes and crepes.

The culinary delights in the city are divine and far better than the fried foods you'd find at Disney World, don't even get us started on the wine! Take your family to the Louvre and see the Mona Lisa or check out Notre Dame. There are plenty of moments to make memories and your photos will create an enviable album.

6 6. Athens, Greece

Most kids spend time in school learning about Greek mythology, so how cool would it be to take them on an actual family trip to the heart of Greece: Athens? They can immerse themselves in the culture and rich history. By the time they come home they can stun their teachers and fellow classmates with first-hand knowledge of Greek legends and mysteries.

Go sailing in Paros, take a day cruise, find many of the tremendous photo opportunities in the city, be an archaeologist for a day at a sponsored excavation dig site, take a mythology tour, a day trip to Delphi, the possibilities are endless.

5 5. Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is the capital of Spain and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. It's bursting at the seams with art, culture, and history. Stroll down the La Rambla boulevard, take a majestic cable car ride over the city, indulge yourself in the food and the shopping of Barcelona.

There are also plenty of beaches if you're looking for a paradise or day in the sun. Skip Disney World and its overrated rides and instead spend a week in Barcelona where there are so many different things to do you'll never get bored. Barcelona also has its own amusement park and aquariums, so you won't be missing much.

4 4. Costa Brava

If you want something a little more low-key than all the hubbub of Barcelona, consider instead visiting the Costa Brava for a paradise. Many families flock to the Costa Brava to take one of their famous hot air balloon rides.

For families with a taste for aquatic adventures, you can go snorkeling around the Medes Islands or have a BBQ lunch while sailing on a Catamaran. There are also day-long cruises for you and your family to get a look around the area. Guided walking tours are offered, visit museums in Costa Brava. And Barcelona isn't far if you decide to mix up the two.

3 3. Dublin, Ireland

When considering destination spots for a family vacation outside of typical theme parks like Disney World, Ireland might not be the first choice that comes to mind, but Dublin is full of activities for you and your entire family to enjoy together. The great thing about going someplace that isn't a bustling theme park is there is more opportunity to actually spend time with your family rather than being split up on different attractions.

Dublin has tons of museums, including a children's museum specifically for fostering imagination. There are golf courses, pottery classes, and Guinness tours for adults. If you or your family is a fan of the Vikings then you can't miss Dublinia, a town that recreates the streets of Dublin as they appeared in medieval times!

2 2. Lisbon, Portugal

There is a distinctive bohemian pride to the cultural mecca of Lisbon, Portugal. It's a sunny, colorful, and vibrant city with so much to do that you'll probably need to plan for a few days stay there (at minimum). The city has grown quite a bit over the past few years. In regards to its history, you can learn about the Berber pirates, Roman imperialists, and more.

Visiting Sintra and the Sintra castle is a must-see while in Lisbon. There is also the Lisbon Oceanarium that lets you get up close and personal with marine life with a section that even goes underwater to let guests peer out into the ocean.

Vienna is the capital of Austria and the metropolitan is ranked as one of the most livable cities in the world. Be careful, if you vacation here you may never want to leave. There are many massive architectural buildings steeped in grandeur in Vienna. You'll find your fair share of cathedrals and palaces when walking around the city. Some must-sees are the Hofburg Palace, St. Stephen's Cathedral, and Rathaus.

There are also elegant and vast gardens such as the Schonbrunn Gardens. There is a museum filled with more than 1,000 clocks and a massive butterfly park. There is also an observation tower for guests to oversee the Vienna forests. The sheer variety makes Vienna a favorable place to visit.
