All-inclusive resorts are practically made for families. There's food, entertainment, and even childcare built-in. Plus, families don't have to worry about safety, since they don't have to travel via car or any other method of transport to chill by the pool, trek to the beach, or even catch a show.

But that doesn't mean staying at an all-inclusive resort is the best idea for all families... Even the most kid-friendly places have limits and rules. And even if there aren't set rules about certain behaviors, the resort staff might have something to say about some of these scenarios.

Here are 20 things families do at all-inclusive resorts that they really shouldn't, at least if the staff has anything to say about it.

20 Leave Kids Alone In A Room

There might not be a specific stipulation about this when you check in. But it's never really a good idea to leave your kid alone in your suite... Unless they're a reasonably responsible teenager who knows not to order room service and blow your vacay budget. And the younger set? Definitely a no-no.

19 Visit High-End Resorts With Children At All

Some resorts aren't specifically designated adults-only. But if there's caviar on the menu and the pools are shallow and built for sunning only, you can tell it's not exactly a playground for your children. Resort staff at higher-end properties likely don't enjoy dealing with rambunctious kids when their usual clientele is classier.

18 Overschedule Your Kids' Days (& The Whole Stay)

Sure, all-inclusive resorts have plenty to see and do. But overscheduling your tots is likely to result in a mini (or maxi!) meltdown, perhaps multiple times per day. Resort staff probably see it all the time, and if you asked, they'd say to let your offspring have some downtime every now and then.

17 Assume The Resort Is The Safest Place Ever

Bad stuff still happens at all-inclusive resorts. Just because it's a relatively secure property doesn't mean you can let your kids wander all over the place without adult supervision. From deep pools to beach access, resorts have plenty of hazards that parents should pay attention to.

16 Expecting The Staff To Babysit

The only way it's okay to expect the staff to watch your kids is if they offer on-site daycare. And if they do, that service likely has its own guidelines and specifications (not to mention costs). You can't ring up Dolores at the front desk and ask her to watch your crew, no matter how grandmotherly she is toward them.

15 Leaving Your Kids In Childcare All Day... And Night

Even at cool kids' club type places, it's not exactly acceptable to practically abandon your child there. But some resorts might not have set time limits for how long your kid can stay with caregivers. In general, though, the staff hopes you'll actually vacation with your child instead of leaving them all the time.

14 Sharing Kiddo Care With People You've Just Met

If you travel with a couple of other families, that's an excellent way to get in free childcare. But leaving your offspring with some peeps you've just met? Not the best idea, though we're sure resort staff has seen it plenty of times. Stick with the well-supervised kids' areas or trusted family and friends, not your neighbor in the next room.

13 Over-Imbibing When You're On Parenting Duty

Having a few drinks with dinner (or lunch, hey it's vacation after all) is usually acceptable. But getting so sloshed you can't count heads before heading up to bed isn't a good look. The resort staff doesn't want to have to worry about you not being able to care for your kids, so keep your imbibing under control.

12 Letting Everyone Stay In Their Swimmers All Day

Most kids probably want to be lounging by the pool or beach their whole resort stay. But staff don't exactly enjoy wet footprints and sandy bums lolling around in the hotel lobby. Keep in mind that some places have dress codes, especially for mealtimes, and that no one wants your kid's soggy swimsuit dripping all over the resort floors.

11 Leaving The Staff To Clean Up After You

Eating and, well, doing anything with kids can be messy. But as a parent, it's still your responsibility (even on vacay) to kind of keep your kids from destroying everything in sight. It's one thing if your kid drops some crumbs at dinner, but it's entirely another when they're strewing handfuls of goldfish all down the hall.

10 Bank On Getting Rooms Side-By-Side

No matter what you think you reserved when you book your stay, nothing is ever guaranteed. Which means you shouldn't anticipate booking side-by-side rooms and then flipping out when you arrive at your destination. The staff would probably caution you that a suite or larger room would be a better fit, if only you'd listen.

9 Expecting Kids To Fall In Line Just 'Cuz It's Vacation

If your kid has tantrums at home, odds are you can expect the same while on your trip. Staff at all-inclusive resorts would probably be happy to tell you that kids are going to be kids no matter how exotic the locale. Not that they enjoy the screaming, but they kind of figure it's inevitable.

8 Not Caring About Safety In General

Kids need lots of safety equipment. There's a lot that goes into caring for children and, like, keeping them alive. So why do parents forget about this stuff on vacation? Keep an eye on your kid by the pool and definitely don't let them hang over the side of your ocean-view balcony.

7 Letting Kids Hang Out In The Spa

Some resorts have age limits for their spa facilities. Others don't have any signs but the staff probably still has an opinion. After all, do you really want your preschooler sitting in a jacuzzi that adults get... um... very close... in? Yeah, spas are gross, but the staff can't exactly tell you that.

6 Expect Kids To Manage Themselves

When you hit up the all-inclusive resort buffet, it's kind of a relief that there's so much for the picky kids to choose from. But letting them have free range will just get on the staff's nerves. You still gotta help your kid pile up their plate, and keep them from gorging on dessert only.

5 Acting Like It's Their Home Away From Home

You came on vacation to experience new things and see a new part of the world. Right? But staying in your hotel room with the baby 24/7 isn't exactly living. Explore your surroundings and try some new stuff, even if it disrupts the baby's nap. The resort staff wants you to actually vacation!

4 Expecting The Resort To Have Everything You Need

It's one thing if your all-inclusive accommodations feature an on-site concierge to cater to your every whim. But most places have limits to what they'll offer to do for you. And tracking down your kid's special eczema lotion or finding just the right brand of super-absorbent diaper isn't in their job description. Pack the essentials, people!

3 Skipping Swim Diapers In The Pool... Ew

All-inclusive resort staff has seen way too many pool hygiene disasters to stay silent on this one. Keep a swim diaper on your non-potty-trained kid at all times, rather than letting them go commando or, worse, putting them in said super-absorbent diapers.

2 Taking Your Kids To Non-Family-Friendly Shows

Sure, some shows don't have set age limits. But that doesn't mean your kid wants to sit through five hours of opera, does it? Think about your kids' attention span and ability to sit quietly through whatever performance you pick, and don't make the resort staff deal with the meltdown that might happen.

1 Not Checking Out Age-Appropriate Activities Ahead Of Time

You're at an all-inclusive resort to have all the amenities you need at your fingertips. But you've probably also thought ahead to the cool activities you'll do. Whether it's ziplining, rock climbing, or scuba diving, check ahead to make sure your kid's age and maturity are compatible, or the staff might have to give you a reality check.
