New measures taken this year regarding travel to and through Ethiopia means it is now a lot easier for both Africans and other visitors to enter the country.
Those of you who have traveled to a country where you are required to have a visa beforehand know how much of a pain the whole process can be. Some nations are harder to obtain visas for than others, and the kind of visa you need obviously depends on the nature of your visit.
Most countries require you to have a valid visa if you are there for business purposes or planning to work there. However, many countries also require you to have one, even if you are just a tourist. That hinges on a few other things too, including the country from which you are traveling.
Ethiopia is a country where visitors are required to have a visa. No matter where you're coming from or why you're visiting, you need a visa in order to legally cross the country's borders. However, as reported by MSN, recent changes to Ethiopian visas now make the whole process a lot easier. As of November 1st of this year, travelers from any other African nation are now able to attain a visa-on-arrival when they get to Ethiopia.
The new service was launched at a ceremony at the African Union Commission's HQ. According to Daily Nation, one of the main reasons for instigating this change is to make it easier for non-Ethiopian Africans to visit the African Union's Headquarters. It will also boost cross-border tourism, trade, and investment as pointed out by Tewolde Gebremariam, Ethiopian Group CEO at the ceremony.
The introduction of a visa-on-arrival service for African citizens isn't the only way Ethiopia has made travel to its country easier in 2018. Earlier this year, the country also introduced a brand new e-visa service that is open to anyone around the world who plans on traveling to Ethiopia. It has made the whole process of applying and attaining an Ethiopian visa far easier. Travelers can now apply for their visa online and receive it via email.
